HENDERSON COUNTY FAMILY YMCA
SWIM LESSONS



  • DATES: Fall session will begin Monday, September 12, 2005 and meet every Monday & Wednesday evening through October 5, 2005. Water Babies will also be offered starting Tuesday, June 21, 2005 and will meet every Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 6:30- 7pm through July 14, 2005.

  • TIMES: Pikes: 5:15-5:45 and 6:00-6:30 Eel: 5:15-5:45 and 6:00-6:30 Ray: 6:00-6:30 Starfish: 6:00-6:30 Polliwog: 5:15-5:45 and 6:00-6:30 Guppy: 5:15-5:45 Minnow: 6:00-6:30 Fish: 5:15-5:45

  • AGES: Participants range from age 3 to 11 years old. All participants need a swimsuit and a towel. Towel service for swim lessons is not provided by the YMCA.

  • STUDENT TO TEACHER RATIO: Maximum of 5 students per instructor. There must be a minimum of 3 students enrolled to conduct a class.

  • COST:
    • $25.00 for Henderson YMCA Family members.
    • $40.00 for Non-Members.

SPACE IS LIMITED AND PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED. PAYMENT IS DUE AT REGISTRATION.

Pike – This class is for “beginners” ages 3-5 years. Basic skills taught include: front float, back float, kicking and breath control.

Eel – This is an “intermediate beginner” class for ages 3-5 years. Skills taught include: survival float, paddle stroke, back float, introduction to treading water.

Ray – This is an “intermediate” class for ages 3-5 years. Children improve skills and endurance. Skills include treading water, survival float, sitting dive, rotary breathing, and introduction to crawl stroke.

Starfish – This is an “advanced” class for ages 3-5 years. Skills include front crawl stroke with rotary breathing, standing dive, front somersault, and back somersault. Children improve skills and endurance.

Polliwog – This is a “beginner” class for ages 6-11 years. Basic skills are taught which include: breath control, front float, back float and introduction to the front crawl.

Guppy - This is the “intermediate beginner” class for ages 6-11 years. Skills taught include front float, front crawl, back float, and introduction to rotary breathing.

Minnow – This is an “intermediate” class for ages 6-11 years. Skills taught include introduction to diving, backstroke, treading water and improved freestyle with rotary breathing.

Fish – This is an “advanced” class for ages 6-11 years. Students continue to improve upon freestyle, backstroke and treading water skills. New skills include breaststroke kick, dolphin kick and elementary backstroke.


*Must have successfully completed prior class or have achieved appropriate skills to advance to next class level.
