We, humankind, strive to understand the world. One way that we try to explain or to understand the world is through mythology. Mythology attempts to do at least three things: explain the natural world, teach lessons for living, and to explain our spiritual place in the world. Mythology has influenced our culture more than many of us realize - our language, the days of the week, products that we buy, holidays, as well as many of the recurring stories of our culture. This unit is an introduction to the inlfuence that mythology has had on our culure. We will read Greek, Roman, German, and Native-American myths, as well as current publications.
