Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire.

Machines Have Learned How To Lie?

I should not be surprised, but I learned this morning that machines now lie to us.

I was listening to the Kim Kommando Show on the way home from work this morning and as usual, I learned something helpful

Ink Jet Printers LIE!

If yours tells you it is running out of Ink?

Don't listen to it. They lie.

It turns out the BEST ones tell you that when there is still 20% of the ink left and the WORST ones tell you that when they have SIXTY FOUR PERCENT of their Ink left!!

You just can't trust anything.

The question now is, what other pieces of equipment do I have lurking in my house that I cannot trust?

I admit I have always been a little suspicious of my scales. ;-)

So don't turn your back on your computer peripherials or other electronic devices, they can't be trusted.

Yeh, this is one I warn clients about. I recently ran an inkjet attached to my network for 3 months past where it reported the color cartridge empty... with no degradation of color until very near the end of that 3 months.

Then I refilled the thing for less than $3. On a cartridge that HP documentation said couldn't be refilled.

B-stinkin'-S.

I have a (Canon) scanner that lies to me all the time. It says it's calibrated, but I have to offset everything by about 3" to get a true scan.

Palm Desktop software lies alla time. Says it's installed and working... but not. Needs regular re-installation just to keep working at all (of course, notaproblem with KPilot in Linux... )

Heck, my Palm lies about the time. HAs to be reset frequently. *sigh* Worse than the analog dashboard clock on my first car ('53 Chevy).

My scales don't dare lie to me. I put iron plates on the thing monthly to make sure it's telling the truth. Drat it! *heh*

I have a soon-to-be-replaced router/firewall that's started fibbing about being connected to my Wonder Woman's notebook (somehow, it's started losing its mind about once a day *sigh*). Replacing it oughta teach it a lesson or three...

My car way falsifying engine temp data for a while, causing some mystifying behavior. I "'splained it" to the lil thing and it's been behaving well since then.

Just like kids: ya just have to take a hard line with machines about their honesty.

:-)
