Background music -Aria De Figaro / Mozart
Mark built very nice flowerboxes in the front of our current home. We are a military family and move about every three years. I love flowers and to survive I like to add my personal touch to the Government Housing units which usually all look the same. Some flowers will be permanent and I hope that the next family that moves in will enjoy them as much as I do!
Princess Cinderella loves to stomp into the beautiful flowers that I plant each year. When the bulbs started to come up this year she layed right on top of my tulips, flattening them.
"That's it, naughty Princess! You need your own garden."
I will leave the section that you see in the picture just for her, and put some catnip and oatgrass seeds out. I planted some chives for her to nibble on, which she seems to love. Some parsley will hopefully also grow in the very front.
The biggest enemies for plants in our garden are deer, squirrels, our little 'Bubba' and of course, Cinderella.
Tips on how to keep deer and other kritters from nibbling off my flowers are greatly appreciated! I shake the pethair, that I pick up daily with a dustmop, at the flowers and it seems to help some. Please feel free to e-mail me your ideas!

BUILD A SUNFLOWER PLAYHOUSE
I found this in the September, 1998 Family Circle issue and think that this is super cute for children age 0-100+ years :-) I will plant one for my boys this year, and will take photos which will be posted here.
Instructions for the Sunflower Playhouse
First, draw a rectangle approx. 4 feet wide and 8 feet long with a stick in the freshly prepared soil. You can also place four corner sticks in the ground and tie string around them to form an outline.
Space the seeds (I would use the 'Mammooth' variety because they grow up to 6 feet tall) 6 inches apart along the lines of the rectangle, leaving a 3-foot space unplanted for the door. When the seedlings reach 6 inches tall, thin them or transplant them to a foot apart. Pull the weeds often.
Play ideas: Furnish the house with small table and chairs, or just put a beachtowel on the ground. Tie stuffed animals to the sunflowers to mimic life in the jungle, or have a teaparty. Be creative and Enjoy!!!

The following pictures are from Fort Hood, Texas.
This is the front of the Housing unit.
I planted impatients which grew huge.
Everything is BIGGER in Texas :-)
Daniel and Smartie next to one of the tall sunflowers that I planted along the back fence
We had a lot of hummingbirds in Texas, and one in particular caught our attention.
This is Fatso because he was much larger than the other hummingbirds.
He fiercely chased all others away from the feeder and out of the yard.
I love springtime in Texas. The wildflowers are gorgeous.
Daniel, Rocky, and Smartie in a field of bluebonnets, the fragrance made me dizzy :-)
