Answers to common rabbit questions

My rabbit has what looks like blood in the bottom of the cage, but I can not find any injuries. What do I do?

Red urine is very common in rabbits. It is cause by the body expelling extra minerals and this causes it to be colored.

What do I feed my pet rabbit?

Rabbits need a base diet of pellets. They should be 16 % to 18% protein. Alfalfa or grass hay should be given at least once a week to long haired breeds to prevent wool block. It can also be fed as a treat. Other treats include carrots, apples, clover, untreated grass, dandelion leaves, oatmeal (dry), bread, and fruit juice. Keep in mind treats should be fed in moderation and not as a base diet.

What can I add to my feed without hurting my rabbit?

Sweet Feed for horses, Calf Manna (called Calf Aid, Annimax, and calf milk replacer pellets), Steam Rolled Barley, Rolled Oats, Cracked Corn, Sunflower Seeds, and Milo. The ratio for mixing is usually 2 to 4 parts pellets and 1 part whatever you want to add.
