Tarot

Alright, I know that in LJS books she never mentions the Tarot, but I still like to remain firm in my assumption that one of the parts left out of..say..The Secret Circle might have been Diana's teaching and giving Cassie a Tarot reading. And as it's a favorite pastime of mine I decided to include a little bit about it....

The Tarot is a psychological and philosophical system consisting of 78 cards divided into the Major Arcana (21 cards), and the Minor Arcana with four Suits, each containing four Court cards and ten Number cards. While references to playing cards appear in Europe from the mid-1300s, one of the oldest Tarot decks, the hand-painted Visconti-Sforza deck of Milan, Italy (c. 1450), may have been based on allegorial parades called Trionfi. In 1781 Court de Gébelin claimed that the symbols on the cards had ancient sacred and magical meanings. Soon they began being used for fortune-telling. A modern reading consists of shuffling the deck, drawing cards, arranging them in a pattern or spread, and interpreting the symbols in relation to a question or current life influences.

The card names in a deck are divided (as mentioned above) into the Major Arcana, and the Minor Arcana, with four suits. The names of the suits are:

Wands(or Rods)
Cups
Swords
Pentacles

Each suit deals with certain aspects of life. Such as:

Cups are concerned with love and emotions. This suit speaks of relationships with others and of the unconscious. Upright cards reveal that your feelings are extremely sensitive---easily aroused and easily hurt. Reversed cards warn against being too detached, cool, and callous.
The realm of Wands is that of physical energy, growth, and personal enterprise. When the cards fall upright in a layout, you're in the driver's seat. When reversed, someone else is at the steering wheel.
Swords relate to intellectual pusuits, social interactions, and aggression. They can cut two ways. Sometimes they represent breakthroughs in communication; other times, breakdowns. When the cards fall in upright positions, you're likely to be victorious. When they fall reversed, they indicate confusion and a need to look at things more objectivley.
Also known as coins, Pentacle cards represent money matters. They speak of work, career, and everything material, real, and solid. When they fall upright, Pentacles tell you that you're in control. When reversed, they suggest confusion about material concerns and susceptibility to intimidation from those who hold power over you.

Now I will list all the cards in a Tarot deck by seperating them into their Arcana. The Major Arcana consists of the following cards:

0-The Fool
1-The Magician
2-The High Priestess
3-The Empress
4-The Emperor
5-The Hierophant
6-The Lovers
7-The Chariot
8-Justice
9-The Hermit
10-The Wheel of Fortune
11-Strength
12-The Hanged Man
13-Death
14-Temperance
15-The Devil
16-The Tower
17-The Star
18-The Moon
19-The Sun
20-Judgment
21-The World

The Lesser (Minor) Arcana consists of 1-10 of each suit along with a Page, Knight, King, and Queen---so as this never varies there is no reason to list them all below.
