ANCIENT EGYPTIAN CANOPIC JAR AND LIDS!

ANCIENT EGYPTIAN CANOPIC JAR AND LIDS!

Here is a very nice clay canopic jar. Canopic jars were used for storing the viscera of the deceased. The composition of these jars ranged from clay/terracotta, wood, limestone, to alabaster depending upon the wealth of the individual. The more wealthy the person, the better the jar and lids were decorated and sculpted. Canopic jars usually contained the lids of the four sons of Horus.(see lids available below). This is a very nice clay jar. It is painted ivory, and has red hieroglyphic text expressing prayers running down the middle of the jar. The jar is completely intact, and is magnificent to view. The painting, color, and hieroglyphics are excellent! I am very proud to present this for your consideration!
