Welcome to The Gardens At Cabin Creek

My gardens are located in zone 6. I'm in northern Kentucky and the weather is always unpredictable. Mostly it's a great place to have a garden. My gardens attract lots of birds, butterflies, bees and other wildlife.

I still have hope that as inexperienced and inconstant a gardener as I am, that I too can have a small plot of fragrance and color. My garden philosophy is "thrive or die," so I choose exceptionally hardy growers, disease resistant plants that are tolerant of three grandchildern and their friends and one "wild" dog and our cat.

As I've said our gardens are located in zone 6 where we have hot and very humid summers. It contains a variety of plants, including buddleia, lillies (all varieties), monarda (bee balm) and purple coneflowers to attract the butterflies and bees, as well as roses, mostly chosen for their fragrance. Among my roses are: The fairy, sun runner, red ribbons, white dawn and about fifteen or so others.

Among my favorite flowers are yellow roses, peonies, Irises ( I have hundreds...does anyone need some?), daylillies, shrub roses and all kinds of bulbs.

Check out our new garden project for this year. We've decided to try some raised beds for our roses. The link is at the bottom of the page.

March 2001:

I finally made it out to the gardens. The crocus are blooming and all my daffs are up and hopefully will bloom soon. The peonies have broken the ground but won't start blooming for another month or so.

I had to rake the leaves off some of my flower beds. I use the leaves as mulch during

winter. I also had to weed the creeping phlox. More weeding to do. ugh!! I always have so many weeds.

I see all these beautiful gardens with....NO WEEDS....and wonder what they do. No matter what I try I always get more and more weeds.

    Pictures of my roses

You can see my grape arbor in the background. We have a bench under the arbor and it makes a wonderfully shady place to sit in the summer. We have butterfly bushes on each side. The combination attracts bees and butterflies. There's even a birds nest on top of the grape arbor.

More roses in this garden. Here I have Sun Runner and Red Ribbons the red and yellow look so good together. I also have some lavender planted in with this garden. It makes a good contrast.

Surrounding the birdbath are fairy roses and baby blanket roses both are pink and bloom almost all summer long.
