From The Back Of The Book:

In the posh London street of Paragon Walk, an unspeakable and baffling crime was committed: a young woman is brutally raped and murdered.

Once again the incomparable team of sleuths, Inspector Thomas Pitt and his young wife, Charlotte, set themselves against a vicious murderer. As the elegant masks of the wellborn suspects began to slip, it became appallingly clear that something ugly lurks behind the handsome facades of Paragon Walk--something that could lead to more scandal, and more murder....

REVIEW:

This is the third book in the Thomas and Charlotte Pitt series. I enjoyed the plot as I did the characters. This is my first Anne Perry book, but I will certainly try more. I really enjoyed this mystery set in Victorian times in England.

Paragon Walk is a very good book especially if you want to read about Victorian hypocrisy and society. I love Charlotte's clever way of getting around the Victorian drawing room manners.

Thomas Pitt is a police detective who is married to Charlotte who is considered socially "above" him. Thomas is considered no better than a tradesman but must investigate crimes that involve the upper class. That's where Charlotte comes in to help him out. I really liked the relationship between Charlotte and Thomas. This is not an overt love story but you come away with the feeling that these two really care for each other, enough to defy the mores' of the time. For a mystery this is a "gentle" read. I would recommend this book for readers who are not fond of blood and gore but like a good mystery.

EXCELLENT
