Game Schedule

 

This event features several top teams and many outstanding players.  Twelve teams are scheduled to play here that were ranked in the top 25 in the Courier-Journal’s pre-season rankings.  They are #1 Lexington Catholic, #2 Scott County, #3 Assumption, #6 Mercy Academy, #8 Christian Academy of Louisville, #9 Sacred Heart Academy, #11 Franklin-Simpson, #15 Notre Dame Academy, #17 Central Hardin, #18 Ballard and #19 Harrison County.  The field also includes one of the top AAA teams in Indiana in Brebeuf Jesuit.

 

Ten of the top twenty-five players featured in the Courier-Journal’s pre-season rankings are scheduled to perform in this event.  The players are #2 Chelsia Lymon (Scott County), #3 Nikki Davis (Lexington Catholic), #5 Amber Norton (Assumption), #6 Merideth Marsh (Christian Academy of Louisville), #7 Anaris Sickles (Lexington Catholic), #8 Rebecca Gray (Scott County), #9 Brooke Faulkner (Harrison County),  #17 Suzie Owens (Scott County), #20 Natalie Novosel (Lexington Catholic), and #25 Dymon Rondo (Eastern).  6-6 Ta’Shia Phillips (Brebeuf Jesuit, IN) is considered one of the top juniors in the nation.

 

Game No. 1  Bryan Station (7-9)  vs.  Eastern (10-6)

 

Bryan Station coach Michael Allen started the following lineup:  5-10 So. Ciera Jackson, 5-10 Sr. Shacora Higgins, 6-2 Sr. Crystal Leach, 5-7 Sr. Bradli Stinson, and 5-7 Sr. Carley Blankenship.  Eastern coach Steve Ward countered with 5-10 Sr. Dymon Rondo, 5-10 Jr. Tesha Wright, 5-8 Sr. Victoria Kane, 5-10 Jr. Jamie Williams, and 5-2 Jr. Camila Aramburu.

 

Bryan Station captured an exciting 53-50 double overtime victory over Eastern.  Eastern’s Cierra Chisholm nailed a three-pointer in the closing seconds of regulation to force overtime.  The game was still tied 48-48 at the end of the first overtime but Bradli Stinson led her team to victory in the second overtime.

 

Bryan Station shot 32% from the field, connected on 16 of 31 free throws and pulled down 46 rebounds.  The Defenders scored 17 points off 16 Eastern turnovers.  Eastern shot 27.8% from the field, connected on 17 of 26 free throws and pulled down 40 rebounds.  Eastern scored 19 points off 22 Bryan Station turnovers.  Eastern also held a 19-2 advantage in bench scoring.

 

Bradli Stinson led Bryan Station with 21 points, eight rebounds, and five assists.  Stinson was 10 of 14 from the free throw line.  Carley Blankenship added 18 points and nine rebounds.  Crystal Leach chipped in with 10 points and 16 rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Cierra Chisholm led Eastern with 19 points and seven rebounds.  Dymon Rondo added 16 points including nine of 11 free throws, and pulled down 13 rebounds.

Game No. 2  Central Hardin (16-1)  vs.  Christian Academy of Louisville (11-5)

 

Central Hardin coach Terry Buckles started the following lineup:  5-8 Sr. Deborah Linder, 5-8 Sr. Tiffany Gilpin, 5-6 Sr. Lauren Flood, 5-6 Sr. Kylie Brady, and 5-6 So. Samantha Sheeran.  Christian Academy of Louisville coach Don Rice countered with 5-11 Jr. Molly Newman, 5-11 Fr. Clair Buchanan, 5-8 Jr. Courtney Smith, 5-7 So. Brooke Willoughby, and 5-9 Sr. Meredith Marsh.

 

Central Hardin outscored CAL 14-6 in the third quarter to erase a 34-30 halftime deficit on their way to a 57-52 victory.  Central Hardin shot 47.4% from the field, connected on 16 of 23 free throws, and pulled down 29 rebounds.  They scored six points off 12 CAL turnovers.  CAL shot 42.9% from the field, was five of nine from the free throw line, and grabbed 27 rebounds.  The Lady Centurions scored 17 points off 14 Central Hardin turnovers.

 

Samantha Sheeran led Central Hardin with 16 points.  Deborah Linder added 10 points.  Meredith Marsh led Christian Academy with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.  Courtney Smith added 12 points.

Game No. 3  Harrison County (8-6)  vs.  Male (9-6)

 

Harrison County coach Mac Whitaker started the following lineup: 5-10 Sr. Brooke Faulkner, Megan Bullock, 6-1 Garyn Price, Katie Kendall, and 5-5 Jr. LaDonna Turley.  Male coach Leslie Scully countered with 5-10 Sr. Whitney Hodge, 5-9 Sr. Amy Barmore, 6-0 Sr. Vanessa Stauble, 5-8 Jr. Emily Beckman, and 5-9 Sr. Kristi White.

 

Male held a 53-26 rebound margin but had to overcome a 38 point scoring performance by Brooke Faulkner to defeat Harrison County 70-66.  Male shot 34.8% from the field and connected on 16 of 26 free throws.  Harrison County shot 50% from the field and connected on 11 of 18 free throws.

 

Kristi White led Male with 25 points including four three point baskets.  Whitney Hodge added 14 points and pulled down 14 rebounds.  Emily Beckman also reached double figures with 10 points.  Vanessa Stauble only recorded four points but pulled down 11 rebounds.  Harrison County was led by Brooke Faulkner who tallied 38 points, a new KPP Classic record.  Faulkner also pulled down six rebounds.  Garyn Price added 10 points.

Game No. 4  Notre Dame Academy (13-4)  vs.  Sacred Heart Academy (12-5)

 

Notre Dame Academy coach Cheryl Darpel started the following lineup:  5-10 Sr. Danielle Wachs, 6-0 Jr. Nicole Dickman, 6-2 Jr. Emily Drees, 5-9 Sr. Heather Bellew, and 5-6 So. Katie Tierney.  Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 6-1 Jr. Caroline Klein, 5-10 Jr. Katie Kopple, 6-2 Jr. Elizabeth Campbell, 5-8 Jr. Sarah Askin, and 5-6 So. Kathryn Denbow.

 

Notre Dame outscored Sacred Heart 18-7 in the third quarter on their way to a 61-47 victory.  Notre Dame held a 40-25 advantage in rebounds and scored 23 points off 27 Sacred Heart turnovers.  Notre Dame shot 42.9% from the field and connected on 12 of 19 free throws.  Sacred Heart shot 40.4% from the field, connected on five of nine free throws and scored 19 points off 26 Notre Dame turnovers.

 

Nicole Dickman led Notre Dame with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals.  Heather Bellew and 5-6 Jr. Jordan Jones added 10 points each.  Emily Drees chipped in with eight points and seven rebounds.  Elizabeth Campbell and Katie Kopple led Sacred Heart with 15 and 10 points respectively.

Franklin-Simpson coach Lex Lindsey started the following lineup:  Brittany Payne, 5-8 Sr. Tara Dalcourt, 6-2 Jr. Rachel Swisher, 5-7 So. Kelleshia Cook, and Drea Gooch.  Mercy Academy coach Mark Evans countered with 5-8 Sr. Melissa Schindler, 6-0 Sr. Jenny Petrie, 5-8 Sr. Megan McGuire, 5-8 Sr. Brittany Buss, and 5-7 Sr. Mallory Luckett.

 

Mercy Academy scored 23 points off 27 Franklin-Simpson turnovers and held a 21-6 advantage in bench scoring in a 64-57 victory.   Mercy shot 43.1% from the field, connected on nine of 19 free throws and pulled down 38 rebounds.  Franklin-Simpson shot 39.2% from the field, was eight of 18 from the free throw line, and grabbed 36 rebounds.   Franklin-Simpson shot 39.2% from the field, was seven of 19 from the free throw line, and grabbed 40 rebounds.  Franklin-Simpson scored 12 points off 23 Mercy turnovers. 

 

Jenny Petrie led Mercy with 24 points and eight rebounds.  Brittany Buss added 11 points and 5-7 So. Amy Wimsatt chipped in with eight points.  Kelleshia Cook led Franklin-Simpson with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and six steals.  Tara Dalcourt added 13 points and eight rebounds.  Brittany Payne chipped in with 10 points.

Game No. 6  Mercer County (10-4)  vs.  Assumption (15-1)

 

Mercer County Chris Souder started the following lineup: 5-5 Jr. Brittney Kendrick, 5-10 Sr. Sabrina Manning, 6-0 So. Tara Camden, 5-6 So. Loran Crowell, and 5-7 Sr. Chelsea Goodman.  (Coach Souder was without the services of two key players as 5-4 Sr. Chrystal Claunch was unavailable for tonight’s game and 5-10 Sr. Lindsey Alford is out with a knee injury.)  Assumption coaches Bob and Martha Todd countered with 5-8 Jr. Eileen Kennedy, 6-1 Sr. Amber Norton, 6-1 Jr. Thia Gholson, 5-8 Sr. Liz Todd, and 5-10 Sr. Kelly Mitchell.

 

Assumption raced out to a 47-24 halftime lead on their way to a 77-46 victory over Mercer County.  Assumption shot 47% from the field, connected on 12 of 22 free throws, and pulled down 41 rebounds.  The Rockets scored 25 points off 26 Mercer County turnovers and held a 21-9 advantage in bench scoring.  Mercer County shot 32% from the field, connected on 12 of 17 free throws, and grabbed 38 rebounds.

 

Thia Gholson led Assumption with 16 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Kelly Mitchell added 15 points and seven rebounds.  Eileen Kennedy chipped in with 12 points.  Amber Norton was hampered by foul woes but scored 11 points in only 12:24 minutes.  Chelsea Goodman led Mercer County with 17 points and seven rebounds.  Sabrina Manning added 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Callie Curry, and Lauren Meadows.  Lexington Catholic coach Greg Todd countered with 5-10 So. Natalie Novosel, 5-7 So. Briana Green, 6-0 Sr. Anaris Sickles, 5-7 Jr. Keyla Snowden, and 5-8 Sr. Nikki Davis.

 

Lexington Catholic scored 27 points off 32 Brebeuf Jesuit turnovers in a 55-42 victory.  Lexington Catholic shot 44.4% from the field, was five of 12 from the free throw line, and pulled down 24 rebounds.  Brebeuf Jesuit shot 41.5% from the field, connected on five of 11 free throws, and grabbed 38 rebounds.

 

Keyla Snowden led Lexington Catholic with 12 points.  Nikki Davis added 10 points, six assists, and seven steals.  Ta’Shia Phillips led Brebeuf Jesuit with 22 points and 22 rebounds.

Ballard coach Ken Smith started the following lineup:  5-7 Sr. Aurilie Derenoncourt, 5-7 Sr. Erin Rodgers, 5-10 Sr. Reena Haliburton, 5-5 Jr. Teadra Elliott, and 5-5 Jr. Petre’ Freeman.  Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 6-0 Sr. Suzie Owens, 5-10 Jr. Rebecca Gray, 6-1 Jr. Holly Milburn, 5-4 So. Kayla Moses, and 5-6 Sr. Chelsia Lymon.

 

Scott County raced out to a 30-10 first quarter lead on their way to an 85-66 victory over Ballard.  Scott County shot 49.3% from the field, connected on 12 of 16 free throws and pulled down 45 rebounds.  The Lady Cardinals scored 19 points off 20 Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 43.3% from the field, connected on 14 of 22 from the free throw line and grabbed 32 rebounds.  Ballard scored 19 points off 17 Scott County turnovers.

 

Rebecca Gray led Scott County with 25 points and seven rebounds.  Suzie Owens added 17 points and 12 rebounds.  Chelsia Lymon chipped in with 13 points and Holly Milburn recorded 11 points and seven rebounds.  Aurilie Derenoncourt and Reena Haliburton led Ballard with 21 points each.  Haliburton also pulled down 11 rebounds.

Conclusion

 

Game One

Bryan Station's Bradli Stinson was named Game MVP and scored 21 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and dished out five assists.

Game Two

Central Hardin’s Samantha Sheeran was named Game MVP and scored 16 points.

Game Three

Harrison County’s Brooke Faulkner was named Game MVP, scored an event-record 38 points, and recorded an event-record eight steals.

Game Four

Notre Dame Academy’s Nicole Dickman was named Game MVP and scored 16 points, pulled down 11 rebounds, and recorded five steals.

Game Five

Mercy Academy’s Jenny Petrie was named Game MVP as she recorded 24 points and eight rebounds.

Game Six

Assumption’s Eileen Kennedy was named Game MVP with 12 points.

Game Seven

This game featured Brebeuf Jesuit’s 6-6 Jr. Ta’Shia Phillips, who is considered No. 1 in the Class of 2007.  Phillips scored 22 points and pulled down 22 rebounds.

Game Eight

Scott County’s Rebecca Gray was named Game MVP and scored 25 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
