Adair County effectively controlled the pace and scrapped and hustled their way to a 51-41 victory over Lincoln County. Adair County led 33-22 after three quarters but Lincoln County scored the first several points of the quarter to cut the margin to four, 33-29. However, Adair County came up with some nice defensive stops to regain control of the game.
Adair County shot 50% from the field including two of two from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on on 17 of 28 free throws and pulled down 29 rebounds. Lincoln County shot 37.4% from the field including only two of 13 from the three point line. The Patriots connected on five of six free throws, grabbed 23 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Adair County turnovers.
Chris Lewis and Kalen Kimberland led Adair County with 12 and 11 points respectively. Darren Ballou added 10 points and nine rebounds. Ryan Young led Lincoln County with 17 points.

Trey Smith hit two free throws with 13 seconds remaining to give South Laurel a 48-46 victory over Fairdale. Fairdale had their chances late but missed a shot to tie with three seconds remaining and had a three point attempt to win blocked by Jordan Hammonds at the buzzer. Fairdale took a 36-30 lead early in the fourth quarter but South Laurel began trapping effectively on defense, allowing them to make a comeback.
South Laurel shot 39% from the field including three of 16 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 21 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 16 Fairdale turnovers. Fairdale shot 36.7% from the field including three of 17 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on seven of 10 free throws, grabbed 36 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 10 South Laurel turnovers. Fairdale held a 16-8 advantage in second chance points and a 12-0 edge in bench scoring.
Trey Smith led South Laurel with 21 points. Ty Proffitt added 17 points and seven rebounds. Reggie Smith led Fairdale with 18 points and nine rebounds. 5-10 Jr. Jaquan Ransom came off the bench to add 12 points.

Holmes relied on a gritty defensive effort to defeat Paducah Tilghman by a score of 57-48. Holmes managed to take a 12-11 first quarter lead despite missing their first 11 of 12 field goal attempts. Paducah Tilghman suffered through a third quarter in which they only scored four points.
Holmes shot 35.7% from the field including five of 12 from the beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on 12 of 21 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Paducah Tilghman turnovers. Paducah Tilghman shot 30.2% from the field including three of five from three point line. The Blue Tornado connected on 13 of 22 free throws, grabbed 40 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Holmes turnovers.
Austin Hill led Holmes with 26 points including four three point baskets. Hill also pulled down seven rebounds. Arrez Henderson added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Isaac McClure led Paducah Tilghman with 19 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

Ballard's defensive intensity proved too much today as the Bruins defeated Owensboro 80-60. Ballard scored 37 points off 36 Owensboro turnovers, recorded 21 steals, and blocked nine shots. Owensboro trailed 30-24 at halftime but Ballard settled the issue with a 30-16 advantage in the third quarter.
Ballard shot 43.8% from the field including five of 19 from the three point line. The Bruins connected on 11 of 21 free throws and pulled down 37 rebounds. Owensboro shot 40.4% from the field including one of five from beyond the arc. The Red Devils connected on 13 of 23 free throws and grabbed 47 rebounds.
Twany Beckham led Ballard with 16 points and seven rebounds. Johonne Hamilton added 15 points, five rebounds, five assists, and seven steals. David Stanley and 6-1 Jr. Jamal Crook recorded 12 and 10 points respectively. Jamison Johnson led Owensboro with 13 points and nine rebounds. 6-0 So. Clark County regained control of the game in overtime to defeat Christian County 77-71. Clark Countyled 63-52 with 2:34 left in regulation but Christian County staged a furious rally to tie the game at 68-68 and force overtime. Clark County hit their free throws in overtime to seal the victory.
Clark County shot 41.8% from the field including six of 21 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on 25 of 44 free throws and pulled down 46 rebounds. Christian County shot 35.1% from the field including eight of 26 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 11 of 17 free throws, grabbed 46 rebounds, and held a 35-12 advantage in bench scoring.
Preston Knowles led Clark County with 24 points and 13 rebounds. Tristan Jones added 20 points and 15 rebounds. Robert Hatton chipped in with 12 points. 6-1 So. Monie Hudson and Joe Hood led Warren Central with 18 points each. Hood connected on five three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds. Nick Britt added 16 points, nine rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. 6-2 Sr. Aaron Rhodes chipped in with 10 points. Scott County defeated Adair County 68-53 to advance to the semifinals on Saturday morning. Scott County led 30-18 at halftime. Adair County cut the deficit to six, 43-37 with 7:28 remaining in the game. However, Matt Walls hit two consecutive three point baskets to allow Scott County to regain control of the game.

Another strong defensive effort led Holmes to a 55-49 victory over South Laurel. Arrez Henderson did an excellent job defending South Laurel star Ty Proffitt who finished the game with 12 points, all in the final quarter.

South Laurel shot 34% from the field including three of 15 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 14 of 15 free throws, grabbed 27 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 10 Holmes turnovers.
Greg Rice led Holmes with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Austin Hill added 21 points. Arrez Henderson chipped in with seven points and seven rebounds. Duran Jefferson did not crack the scoring column but pulled down nine rebounds and dished out six assists. Jordan Hammonds led South Laurel with 18 points and eight rebounds. Ty Proffitt and Trey Smith added 12 and nine points respectively.

Scott County Coach Billy Hicks countered with 6-3 Jr. Cam Hundley, 5-10 Sr. Jimmie Warren, 6-7 Jr. Jordan Lee, 6-4 Jr. Bud Mackey, and 6-3 Sr. Matt Walls.
Scott County connected on 23 free throws in the final quarter to defeat Holmes 73-64. Scott County's pressure defense allowed the Cardinals to go on a 16-1 run in the third quarter and lead 47-32 entering the final quarter.
Scott County shot 39.6% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on 32 of 38 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 24 Holmes turnovers. Holmes shot 46.8% from the field including eight of 15 from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs connected on 12 of 17 free throws, grabbed 27 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.
Matt Walls led Scott County with 25 points including 12 of 16 from the free throw line. Cam Hundley came up big with 23 points including 13 of 13 from the free throw stripe. Bud Mackey chipped in with 15 points. Greg Rice led Holmes with 26 points and seven rebounds. Arrez Henderson and Austin Hill added 15 points each. Henderson connected on three three point baskets.

Ballard's defense allowed them to eke out a hard-earned 61-55 victory over Warren Central. The score was tied 53-53 with four minutes left in the game. Ballard scored two consecutive field goals and held on for the victory.
Ballard shot 35.6% from the field including eight of 20 from the three point line. The Bruins connected on 11 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 21 Warren Central turnovers. Ballard held a 12-0 advantage in bench scoring. Warren Central shot 41.2% from the field including four of 19 from beyond the arc. The Dragons connected on nine of 12 free throws and grabbed 44 rebounds.
Johonne Hamilton led Ballard with 13 points and eight rebounds. David Stanley added 13 points including four three point baskets. Jonathan Gholson and 5-8 So. Wesley Cox added 11 and 10 points respectively. Twany Beckham chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds. Monie Hudson led Warren Central with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Jeremy Anderson added 19 points including three three point baskets. Avery Driver recorded four points and pulled down 12 rebounds.

Bud Mackey scored 11 of his game-high 22 points in the final quarter to lead Scott County to a 56-50 victory over Ballard. Ballard led 49-44 with 4:56 left in the game but Mackey scored nine of the next 12 points for Scott County and Ballard was zero for nine in field goal attempts down the stretch.

Ballard shot 28.6% from the field including only three of 26 from beyond the arc. The Bruins connected on 11 of 21 free throws, grabbed 41 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 19 Scott County turnovers. Scott County held a 17-5 advantage in bench scoring.

Congratulations to Coach Billy Hicks and the Scott County Cardinals for capturing the championship. Scott County started the season No. 1 and ended the season No. 1. The Cardinals finished 30-0 against instate schools with their losses being to Arlington Country Day (FL) and Huntington (WV).
Ballard finished a great season at 35-3, was ranked No. 2 and had won 26 in a row before dropping the title game to the Cardinals. Also congratulations to Warren Central who were making their sixth straight appearance in the state tourney, and to Jeremy Anderson who played in his fifth consecutive tourney.
South Laurel's trio of Ty Proffitt , Jordan Hammonds , and Trey Smith were part of four state tourney teams and won the big prize in 2005. Also congratulations to June Buchanan and Elliott County for making their first appearance in the state tournament.
There are too many teams to mention them all here but I have a rather simplistic approach to the state tourney. Regardless of the outcome in any game here this week, there are absolutely no losers at the tourney. There will always be discussions of the teams that didn't make it -- the should-have-beens, would-have-beens, could-have-beens. However 16 teams descended on Rupp Arena for this special week and event that ultimately crowns the championship of Kentucky High School Hoops.
