This tournament is in its 13th year and is already rich in tradition. Past champions have been Madison Central (1995-1996), Bryan Station (1996-1997), Scott County (1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002), Dixie Heights (2002-2003), Scott County (2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, and 2006-2007).
This year’s field will consist of the following teams: Clay County, Covington Catholic, Doss, Gainesville (FL), North Laurel, Perry County Central, Scott County, and Stone Mountain (GA). There will also be a girl’s game in this event as duPont Manual will play Scott County.
Wednesday January 23rd – Day 1
Doss vs. Covington Catholic (Tournament Bracket)
Doss coach Dwight Bransford started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Xavier Weatherington, 6-1 Sr. Troy Ricketts, 6-4 Jr. Kenny Townsend, 5-9 Jr. David Glenn, and 6-4 Jr. Cameron Clemons. Covington Catholic coach Mike Listerman countered with 6-4 Sr. J.D. Schmerge, 6-3 Jr. Luke Maile, 6-7 Sr. Aaron Noll, 6-2 Sr. Michael Grimes, and 5-10 Jr. Mitch Shover.
Covington Catholic led 52-26 early in the final quarter and survived a Doss rally to earn a 63-52 victory. Covington Catholic shot 54.2% from the field including five of eight from the three point line. They connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 13 Doss turnovers. Doss shot 51.1% from the field, connected on four of seven free throws, and pulled down 24 rebounds. Doss scored 15 points off 12 Covington Catholic turnovers.
Luke Maile led Covington Catholic with 25 points. Maile was 11 of 15 from the field and two of four from the free throw line. Aaron Noll added nine points and five rebounds.
Cameron Clemons led Doss with 18 points. Troy Ricketts added eight points.

Nick Shannon led North Laurel with 23 points and six rebounds. Shannon connected on three of five three point attempts. Josh Seidel and Luke Dalton added 19 and 17 points respectively.
Cameron Clemons led Doss with 21 points including three three point baskets. Troy Ricketts and Kenny Townsend added 17 and 10 points respectively.

The Pirates connected on 15 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 19 Covington Catholic turnovers. Brittany Wilson led Manual with 17 points and 14 rebounds. Jordan Trimble added 13 points including three three point baskets. Danielle Woodmore chipped in with 12 points and six rebounds. Avery Jones recorded nine points and nine rebounds.
Kayla Moses led Scott County with 21 points including three three point baskets. Moses also recorded five rebounds and three steals. Madison Webb added nine points and five rebounds. Alex McKenzie pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds.

Richie Phares led Scott County with 21 points, 14 rebounds, and four steals. Jordan Lee added 18 points and eight rebounds. Ge-Lawn Guyn and 6-4 Sr. Cameron Hundley each recorded eight points.

Congratulations to the organizers for putting together another excellent field and to the Scott County Cardinals for capturing their tenth Toyota Classic championship in 13 years. The Toyota Classic organizers continue to send the right message with the recognition of juniors and seniors who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.0 or better. This year 37 student athletes were recognized for their academic accomplishmants.
