2009 Kentucky 6th Grade Boys State Tournament

Thirty-two teams are scheduled to participate in the 6th Grade Boys State Tournament.  The teams scheduled to participate are Beaumont, Foley, Eversole 2, Georgetown, Anderson County, McNabb, Elkhorn, Lincoln County, Morton, South Laurel, Clinton County, Grant County, Eversole 1, North Oldham, Lexington Christian Academy, Northern, West Jessamine, Scott County, Monroe County, Southern, Meece, Campbell County, Elliott County, Casey County, Mercer County, Adair County, Chavies, Paris, Mason County, JCTMS, Wayne County, and Walton-Verona.

All of the teams are scheduled to play a preliminary game on Saturday.  This will help set up the pairings for the elimination tourney starting on Saturday afternoon.

Clay McKee led Georgetown with 19 points.  Cade Fletcher led Eversole 2 with 11 points.

Dusty Puckett and Josh Brown led the victors with 10 and nine points respectively.   Jarred Looney led McNabb with six points.

D. J. Torres, Timothy Taylor, and Jacob Conway led Lincoln County with 15, 14, and eight points respectively.   Rontez Mitchell led Elkhorn with 15 points.

Zach Allen and Tanner Bell led South Laurel with 13 and 10 points respectively.   Colby Barnes led Morton with eight points.

Trenton Wainscott and Jordan Saylor led Grant County with 15 and 14 points respectively.   Lance Claywell led Clinton County with 16 points including four three point baskets.

Wayne County, led by Logan Gardner's 12 points, outscored South Laurel 20-2 in the third quarter on their way to a 60-30 victory.  Logan Gardner, Trey Blevins, and Cory Stearns led the victors with 18, 11, and 10 points respectively.   Zach Allen, Tanner Bell, and Austin Hayes led South Laurel with eight, eight, and six points respectively.

Conclusion

I have attempted to give a brief recap of each game played this weekend.  The stats in this report came from the game scoresheets.  I apologize in advance for any errors or misspelling of names.  This writeup is not meant to be used for official records but for general coverage of this event.

Congratulations to the Wayne County for their championship run and to all the fine teams and players who participated this weekend.  Also congratulations to Tourney MVP Logan Gardner (Wayne County) who averaged 13.7 ppg for six games.  Georgetown's Clay McKee had an excellent tourney, averaging 24.3 ppg for four games.
