This tournament is in its 14th year and is already rich in tradition. Past champions have been Madison Central (1995-1996), Bryan Station (1996-1997), Scott County (1997-1998, 1998-1999, 1999-2000, 2000-2001, 2001-2002), Dixie Heights (2002-2003), Scott County (2003-2004, 2004-2005, 2005-2006, 2006-2007, and 2007-2008).
This year’s field will consist of the following teams: Tates Creek, Covington Catholic, Montgomery County, Louisville Male, Adair County, Louisville Central, Bourbon County, and Scott County. There will also be a girls’ round-robin event featuring the following teams: Ryle, Scott County, Lafayette, and Boyd County.
Tuesday January 20th – Day 1
Ryle vs. Scott County (Girls)
Ryle coach Patti Oliverio started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Liz Meyer, 5-10 Fr. Sydney Moss, 5-8 Jr. Scooby Williams, 5-6 Fr. Ashley Cheesman, and 5-10 Fr. Jenna Crittendon. Scott County coach Steve Helton countered with 5-10 7th grader Tereka Guyn, 5-11 Jr. Madisen Webb, 5-9 So. Alex McKenzie, 5-7 Jr. Breonna Jackson, and 5-9 So. Kristen Stainback.
Scott County defeated Ryle by a score of 73-69. Scott County shot 42% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line. The Lady Cardinals connected on 12 of 24 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 23 Ryle turnovers. Ryle shot 41.3% from the field including six of 14 from beyond the arc. The Lady Raiders connected on 11 of 16 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 23 Scott County turnovers.
Kristen Stainback led Scott County with 20 points and 16 rebounds. Madisen Webb added 20 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and six steals. Alex McKenzie recorded 19 points and nine rebounds.
Jenna Crittendon led Ryle with 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists, and six steals. Sydney Moss added 16 points eight rebounds, and assists. 5-6 So. Abby Jump chipped in with 15 points on five three point baskets.

Ryle vs. Lafayette (Girls)

Lafayette raced out to a 33-18 halftime lead on their way to a 63-38 victory over Ryle. Lafayette shot 45.6% from the field including seven of 15 from the three point line. The Lady Generals connected on four of five free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 20 Ryle turnovers. Ryle shot 29.8% from the field including two of six from beyond the arc. The Lady Raiders connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 16 Lafayette turnovers.
Lisa Hack led Lafayette with 22 points including two three point baskets. Ali Ross added 15 points including four three point baskets. Maya Hanatani dished out eight assists.
Sydney Moss led Ryle with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dawn Johnson added seven points.

Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 17 points and eight rebounds. Ryan Fucci and 6-4 Jr. Myles Potter added 13 and 11 points respectively.
Luke Maile led Covington Catholic with 22 points. Alex Ives added 16 points including four three point baskets.

The Lady Cardinals connected on 13 of 19 free throws and pulled down 54 rebounds. Boyd County shot 38.2% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc. The Lady Lions connected on six of 15 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 Scott County turnovers.
Kristen Stainback led Scott County with 21 points and six rebounds. Madisen Webb added 18 points, six rebounds, nine assists, and five steals. Alex McKenzie chipped in with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Tereka Guyn also reached double figures with 10 points.
5-6 Fr. Courtney Moore led Boyd County with nine points. Holly Jude, Catie Wamsley , and 5-7 So. Kelly Pope added eight points each.

Alex Ives led Covington Catholic with 17 points including five three point baskets. Luke Maile also recorded 17 points. 6-4 Sr. Zach Isler chipped in with 12 points. Trevor Wellbrock pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds.
Cody Curtis, Derrick Robinson, and 6-4 Jr. Logan Manship led Montgomery County with seven, six, and six points respectively.

Central defeated Covington Catholic by a score of 56-54. Central shot 46.2% from the field including three of nine from the three point line. The Yellow Jackets connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 12 Covington Catholic turnovers. Covington Catholic shot 40.4% from the field including six of 18 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 18 Central turnovers.
Ridge Wilson led Central with 16 points and 10 rebounds. 5-10 Sr. Dawan robinson added 13 points. Desmond Brown chipped in with 10 points and six rebounds. Marcel Williams recorded 10 points including two three point baskets. Tim Patterson pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds.
Luke Maile led Covington Catholic with 13 points. Alex Ives added 11 points including three three point baskets. Zach Isler chipped in with 10 points.

Adair County coach Mark Fudge countered with 6-7 Sr. Darren Ballou, 6-3 Jr. Kyle Sandusky, 6-3 Sr. Cameron Murrell, 5-9 Sr. Corey Helm, and 5-9 Sr. Nick Fudge.
Male trailed 44-39 after three quarters but rallied to take a 64-61 victory over Adair County. Male led 33-20 at halftime but Adair County outscored the Bulldogs 24-6 in the third quarter to take a lead entering the final quarter.
Male shot 46% from the field including five of eight from the three point line. The bulldogs connected on 13 of 16 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 12 Adair County turnovers. Adair County shot 37.5% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on 19 of 24 free throws, pulled down 24 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 15 Male turnovers.
Tony Horne led Male with 18 points and eight rebounds. D’Carlo Hayes added 17 points including two three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds. 6-0 So. Kevin Glenn chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.
Corey helm led Adair County with 18 points including three three point baskets. Kyle Sandusky added 13 points and seven rebounds. Nick Fudge chipped in with 13 points, six rebounds, four assists, and five steals. Darren Ballou recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.

Ryle scored 49 points off 35 Boyd County turnovers in a 93-38 victory. Ryle shot 57.8% from the field including six of 10 from the three point line. The Lady Raiders connected on 13 of 20 free throws and pulled down 38 rebounds. Twelve players cracked the scoring column for Ryle. Boyd County shot 36.4% from the field including only one of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lady Lions connected on five of 12 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 19 Ryle turnovers.
Jenna Crittendon led Ryle with 29 points. Crittendon was 12 of 16 from the field including two of two from the three point line and three of four from the free throw line. Crittendon only logged 18:35 minutes tonight. Sydney Moss added 15 points and six rebounds. Abby Jump chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.
Holly Jude led Boyd County with 10 points. 5-8 Fr. Charlee Roark and Rainey Mosley added nine and eight points respectively.

Scott County defeated Lafayette by a score of 62-41. Scott County shot 52.1% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line. The Lady Cardinals connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored two points off 11 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 29.3% from the field including five of 16 from beyond the arc. The Lady Generals connected on two of four free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 18 Scott County turnovers.
Madisen Webb led Scott County with 26 points including three three point baskets. Webb also pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out seven assists. Kristen Stainback added 24 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Alex McKenzie chipped in with 10 points and eight rebounds.
Lisa Hack led Lafayette with 10 points. Maya Hanatani, Jameka Gillespie, and Ali Ross added nine, eight, and eight points respectively. Jessica Walker pulled down 13 rebounds.

The Cardinals connected on 12 of 15 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 17 Tates Creek turnovers. Scott County held a 14-2 advantage in second chance points. Tates Creek shot 40.4% from the field including six of 14 from beyond the arc. The Commodores connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 Scott county turnovers.
Richie Phares led Scott County with 20 points, 14 rebounds, and four blocked shots. Dakotah Euton added 16 points. Chad Jackson recorded 13 points, six rebounds, and six assists.
Marcellus Barksdale led Tates Creek with 19 points and six rebounds. Jordan Hagan added 12 points including three three point baskets. Ryan Fucci also recorded 12 points.

Conclusion
Congratulations to the organizers for putting together another excellent field and to the Scott county Cardinals for capturing their eleventh Toyota Classic Championship in 14 years. Also congratulations to the Scott County Lady Cardinals for finishing first in their division. The Toyota Classic organizers continue to send the right message with the recognition of juniors and seniors who have maintained a cumulative average of 3.0 or better. This year 48 student athletes were recognized for their academic accomplishments.
