Al Prewitt served as Henry Clay’s Head Boys’ Basketball Coach for 28 years. We are happy to host this event in his honor and wanted to share some of his career accomplishments:

Oldham County (9-14) vs. Nicholas County (12-9)

Oldham County coach Jason Holland started the following lineup: 6-2 Jr. Blake Payne, 6-2 Jr. Dylan Sims, 6-5 Jr. Nolan Denise, 6-2 So. Kerry Smith, and 5-11 Sr. Brandon Cook. Nicholas County coach Michael Cofer countered with 6-2 Sr. Kyle Campbell, 6-3 Sr. Zach Lemons, 6-6 Jr. Charles Washington, 6-0 Sr. Dalton Hampton, and 5-10 Sr. Kalep Briely.

Oldham County rallied from a fourth quarter deficit to defeat Nicholas County by a score of 50-47. Nicholas County led 44-41 with 5:14 left in the game when Charles Washington went to the bench with his fifth foul. Oldham County then went on a 9-0 run to take control of the game.

Oldham County shot 35.8% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on six of 12 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 19 Nicholas County turnovers. Nicholas County shot 32.7% from the field including three of 12 from beyond the arc. The Blue Jackets connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored six points off 13 Oldham County turnovers.

Nolan Denise led Oldham County with 14 points and seven rebounds. Kerry Smith added eight points and eight rebounds. 6-0 Jr. Dylan Henderson chipped in with six points on two three point baskets. Nolan Denise was named Game MVP.

Charles Washington led Nicholas County with 18 points and 17 rebounds. Kyle Campbell also scored 18 point including three three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds.

Nelson County (14-7) vs. Sayre (15-7)

Nelson County coach Artie Braden started the following lineup: 6-1 Sr. Demarcus Collins, 5-10 Jr. Bryce Greer, 6-3 Jr. Ricky Ricketts, 5-9 Sr. Quentin Brooks, and 5-9 Jr. Daniel Mudd. Sayre coach Ted Hall countered with 6-8 8^th grader Dakari Johnson, 6-0 So. Reid Freeman, 6-6 Fr. Ray Brewer, 5-8 Jr. Griffin Miller, and 5-8 Fr. Mike Smith.

Nelson County defeated Sayre by a score of 67-44. Nelson County shot 50.9% from the field including five of 10 from the three point line. The Cardinals connected on four of nine free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 22 Sayre turnovers. Sayre shot 41.3% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc. The Spartans connected on four of 12 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored nine points off 11 Nelson County turnovers.

Demarcus Collins led Nelson County with 18 points and seven rebounds. Quentin brooks added 15 points. 6-2 Sr. Antonio Raley chipped in with 14 points including four three point baskets. Quentin Brooks was named Game MVP.

Mike Smith led Sayre with 14 points and four assists. Dakari Johnson added 12 points and 13 rebounds.

Green County (10-12) vs. Bourbon County (4-19)

Green County coach Ashley Geralds started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Skyler Shively, 6-1 Jr. Grayson Bills, 6-5 Sr. Dustin Curry, 6-0 Sr. Brock Milby, and 6-1 Sr. John Stone. Bourbon County coach Jay Bordas countered with 6-1 Fr. Chris Gillispie, 6-1 Sr. Jacob Covey, 6-5 So. Chris Mullins, 5-10 Sr. Taylor Barnes, and 6-2 Sr. Alex McFarland.

Green County raced out to a 45-15 halftime lead on their way to a 75-42 victory over Bourbon County. Green County shot 43.5% from the field including one of nine from the three point line. The Dragons connected on 20 of 34 free throws, pulled down 53 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 22 Bourbon County turnovers. Bourbon County shot 25.4% from the field including only one of 26 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 18 Green County turnovers.

Skyler Shively and Brock Milby led Green County with 15 points each. Grayson Bills added 10 points and 10 rebounds. Dustin Curry recorded six points and 10 rebounds. Grayson Bills was named Game MVP.

Chris Gillespie led Bourbon County with 24 points and four rebounds.

Danville coach Matthew Yates started the following lineup: 6-4 Jr. Colin Turner, 6-1 Jr. Max Meckes, 6-4 Jr. Cameron Burgess, 5-11 Sr. Duran Elmore, and 5-8 Jr. Jacody Taylor. Madison southern coach Shane Buttry countered with 6-5 Sr. Joey Wallace, 6-1 Jr. Aaron Ponder, 6-3 Sr. Jommy Freel, 5-8 Jr. A.J. Jeck, and 5-9 Sr. Carrington Roberts.

Madison Southern defeated Danville by a score of 87-66. Madison Southern shot 52.5% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line. The Eagles connected on 15 of 28 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Danville turnovers. Danville shot 41.5% from the field including only one of 17 from beyond the arc. The Admirals connected on 11 of 19 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Madison Southern turnovers.

Carrington Roberts led Madison Southern with 23 points including three three point baskets. Aaron Ponder sdded 19 points including five three point baskets. 5-9 Sr. Trent Broughton chipped in with 14 points. Joey Wallace recorded 12 points and 14 rebounds. Jimmy Freel added eight points and 12 rebounds. Carrington Roberts was named game MVP.

Duran Elmore led Danville with 17 points and seven rebounds. Jacody Taylor added 15 points. 6-2 Jr. Tevin Raines chipped in with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Lafayette (18-4) vs. Fairdale (11-10)

Lafayette coach Greg Coldiron started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Domonique Hagans, 6-4 Jr. Tanner Napier, 6-7 8^th grader Jackson Davis, 6-0 Jr. D’Angelo Yarbrough, and 6-1 Sr. Mike Walker. Fairdale coach Gregg Longacre countered with 6-2 Sr. Chris Biven, 5-11 Sr. Keiven Williams, 6-4 Sr. Quintrel Morris, 5-11 Sr. Anthoney Claypool, and 5-10 Sr. Bradley Vincent.

Fairdale defeated Lafayette 80-75 in a hard fought contest. Fairdale shot 57.9% from the field including four of six from the three point line. The Bulldogs connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 43.9% from the field including nine of 26 from beyond the arc. The Generals connected on eight of 13 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 18 Fairdale turnovers.

Quintrel Morris led Fairdale with 38 points and 14 rebounds. 6-3 Jr. Josh Stroud added 18 points, nine rebounds, and four assists. Anthoney Claypool chipped in with 14 points including four three point baskets. Quintrel Morris was named Game MVP.

6-1 Sr. John Burton led Lafayette with 18 points including four three point baskets. Domonique Hagans added 17 points and six rebounds. Mike Walker chipped in with 14 points.

Henderson county coach Mark Starnes started the following lineup: 6-3 Jr. Adam Revlett, 6-1 Jr. Ford Stuen, 6-4 Jr. Patrick Neel, 6-2 Sr. Cole Childress, and 5-7 Sr. D.J. Holmes. Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown countered with 6-2 Jr. Trae Stewart, 6-0 Jr. Brandon Nichols, 6-5 Jr. Daniel Kiesling, 5-10 Sr. Marquel Johnson, and 5-8 So. Wes Kimball.

Henry Clay defeated Henderson County by a score of 64-57. Henry Clay shot 51% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line. The Blue Devils connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 18 Henderson County turnovers. Henderson County shot 47.6% from the field including five of 11 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 12 of 23 free throws, and scored 10 points off 13 Henry Clay turnovers.

Marquel Johnson led Henry Clay with 15 points including four three point baskets. Daniel Kiesling added 12 points and seven rebounds. Wes Kimball recorded 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Kimball flawlessly directed the Blue Devil offense. Brandon Nichols also reached double figures with 10 points. Wes Kimball was named Game MVP.

D.J. Holmes led Henderson County with 13 points including three three point baskets. Cole childress and 6-1 Sr. Brock Stone added 12 points each. Adam Revlett recorded nine points and six rebounds.

Conclusion:

Congratulations to Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown for putting together an excellent event to honor one of the great coaches in Kentucky High School history – Al Prewitt. It was a very enjoyable day of basketball with some good talent on display.
