2010 Republic Bank Holiday Classic (Girls) Participating Teams

Anderson County – Coach Tony Kays’ Lady Bearcats finished 20-9 last season and captured the 8^th Region championship. They return virtually the entire team and their defense should make them a top contender for the title again this season. 6-2 Sr. Sydney Brown (10 ppg), 5-10 Fr. Makenzie Cann, and 5-10 Fr. Eriel McKee are expected to lead Anderson County this season. Other players expected to be key contributors include 5-9 Sr. Caroline McDowell, 5-3 Fr. Destiny Stewart, and 6-1 So. Kali Whiteside.

Assumption – Coach Ron Ferch’s Rockets finished 17-11 last season. The Rockets enter the 7^th Region battles this season with a young team (only one senior) but a group eager to learn and improve. 5-9 Sr. Maggie Hartlage is expected to be the team leader this season. 5-8 So. Dee Dee Sliter has greatly improved and with Hartlage should provide scoring punch. 5-10 Jr. Morgan Foley and 5-6 Jr. Becca Durbin are expected to be key contributors. 5-11 So. Kelsey Kaiser and 5-9 So. Katie Freidrich are expected to be effective in the paint. (Note: Coach Ferch has been relieved of his coaching duties).

Ballard – Coach Steve Kaufman’s Bruins finished 19-12 last season, lost their top two scorers but has the size and athleticism to contend in the 7^th Region this season. 6-3 Sr. Jaylan Bodiford (8 ppg, 8rpg), 6-3 Sr. Ciera Woods, and 5-11 Sr. Tavey Smith provide size and experience inside. 5-5 Sr. Porscha Saunders, 5-7 Sr. Anjelica Newby, and 5-8 So. Alexus Colbert are expected to have solid seasons. Ballard has an excellent fresman class including 5-9 Fr. Kianna Richardson, 5-10 Fr. Javonna Layfield, and 5-8 Fr. Dre’a Matchen.

Betsy Layne – Coach Devon Akers’ Ladycats reside in the 15^th Region and finished 17-8 last season. They will be led this season by 5-6 Sr. Taylor Hott who aversged 14 ppg last season. Other top players are expected to be 5-8 Sr. Keleigh Wagner, 5-10 So. TJ Tackett, and 6-0 Sr. Taylor Watkins.

Boone County – Coach Nell Fookes Lady Rebels finished 28-4 last season and captured the 9^th Region title. 5-11 Jr. Sydney Moss averaged 22.6 ppg and 10.8 rpg last season and has the ability to take over a game. Other top players include 5-1 Sr. Stacie Shrout, 5-11 Jr. Lydia Nash, and 5-7 Sr. Annie Browning. 5-4 So. Jessica Jones is expected to take over at point guard.

Bowling Green – Coach LaVonda Johnson’s Purples finished 28-3 last season and captured the 5^th Region championship. They will be a top contender for the title this season and will be led by versatile guard 5-8 Sr. Adrienne Tarrence. 5-5 Sr. Alexis Lawrence is a deadly three point shooter. 5-9 Sr. Zoe Sibalich and 5-9 Jr. Kendra Barnett are also key returnees.

Butler – Coach Larry Just’s Bearettes finished 21-9 last season, captured the 6^th Region title and are favored to repeat this season. The Bearettes will be small but quick and talented. They will be led by 5-8 Sr. Megan Cureton (9 ppg), 5-8 So. Aareon Smith (10 ppg), and 5-7 Sr. Heather Wheat (9 ppg). 5-9 Jr. Mackenzie Martinez and 5-7 Fr. Danielle Lawrence are also key returnees.

Central – Coach Ashley Franklin’s Yellowjackets finished 18-9 last season and should compete for the 6^th Region title this season. They are led by 5-8 Sr. Brianna Averette (16 ppg) who is a versatile scorer. Other key returnees include 5-7 Sr. Royalty Finn, 5-7 Sr. Crissy Washington, and 5-11 So. Nikcoa Jackson.

Christian Academy of Louisville – Coach Don Rice’s Lady Centurions finished 25-6 last season but graduated two of the 7^th Region’s top players in Antonita Slaughter and Allison Karst. CAL will have to depend on team quickness and the scoring ability of 5-10 So. China Dow. Other top players are expected to include 5-8 Sr. Emily Walden, 5-6 Jr. Katie Shaheen, 5-7 So. Kate Joss, and 5-8 So. Chalisa Helm.

Clay County – Coach James Burchell’s Lady Tigers finished 28-7 last season, captured the 13^th Region title and should be a top contender again this season. 6-1 Sr. Whitney Belle Jackson averaged 13.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg last season. Jackson has improved her quickness and ability to put the ball on the floor. She is on track to score over 2000 career points and collect over 1000 career rebounds. 5-7 Sr. Kayla Smith (8 ppg) is a veteran point guard and 5-5 Jr. Alisha Mitchell averaged 9 ppg and is an excellent three point shooter. 5-9 Jr. Sabrina Smith and 5-11 So. Morgan Chestnut are expected to complete the starting lineup. Other players expected to log significant minutes include 5-5 Jr. Victoria Jackson, 5-10 Fr. Sara Robinson, and 5-6 Jr. Natosha Gilbert.

Community School of Naples FL – Coach Mitch Wood’s Seahawks finished 18-14 last season playing a tough schedule and was the Florida 2A State Champion Runner-up. The Seahawks graduated several key players and all-everything guard 5-9 Sr. Michelle Woods will pick up even more responsibilities this season. Coach Woods expects good seasons from 5-9 Jr. Caitlin Schwartz, 5-8 Jr. Hannah Allen, and 6-0 So. Grayson Pinholster.

Conner – The Lady Cougars finished 12-13 last season and Aaron Stamm takes over as head coach this season. Coach Stamm will enter the 9^th Region battles with a prolific long range bomber in 5-8 Sr. Toria Fischer. Other players counted on for major contributions include 5-10 Jr. Amanda Ray, 5-6 Jr. Ellery Kring, and 5-7 Jr. Dawn Peacock. (Note: It has been reported that Ellery Kring suffered a season ending shoulder injury).

Dayton Dunbar OH – Coach Atina Harris has taken over this program and must depend on quickness and fundamentals as the tallest listed player on the roster is 5-7. They do have some experience with three seniors and five juniors on the roster.

duPont Manual – Coach Stacy Pendleton’s Lady Crimsons finished 24-6 last season and have the talent and depth to be a top contender for the 7^th Region championship and the state championship this season. Manual has depth, athleticism, and several players who can shoot the ball. 5-7 Jr. April Wilson (10 ppg) is an excellent point guard with good quickness. 5-10 Sr. Mechael Guess averaged 12.4 ppg and 6.4 rpg last season. 5-10 Jr. Kara Wright and 6-0 So. Kayla Styles are very athletic. 5-7 Jr. LeAsia Wright 5-4 Sr. Raven Hester, and 5-7 So. Destony Curry are very capable guards and 5-8 Jr. Lauren Bodine is an excellent perimeter shooter.

Elizabethtown – Coach Tim Mudd’s Panthers finished 26-6 last season and will be one of the top teams in the 5^th Region this season. 5-6 Sr. Natalie Greenwell (14 ppg) is one of the best point guards in the state and is a deadly free throw shooter. 6-0 Sr. Adelaide Luckett (12.5 ppg) adds experience and is a versatile scorer. 5-10 Jr. Kaylyn Cecil, 5-8 Jr. Tara Gilpin, 5-9 Sr. Hannah Hart, and 5-8 So. Anna Bowling are experienced wing players. 5-10 Jr. Darian Ditto was slated to return after ACL surgery but unfortunately re-injured the knee during pre-season.

Franklin County – Coach Joey Thacker’s Lady Flyers finished 25-8 last season and should be one of the top contenders for the 11^th Region crown this season. 5-10 Jr. Ashli Mayes has good all-around skills and is capable of putting up big numbers in both scoring and rebounding. 5-11 Sr. Chelsea Rivers, 5-8 Sr. Lacinda Hack, and 5-9 Sr. Chelsea Brown are also key returnees. 6-0 Sr. Taylor Gentry, 5-8 Sr. Heather Redmon, and 5-9 Sr. Veera Salonen are expected to provide inside play. The Lady Flyers have an exceptional group of underclassmen including 5-7 So. Raven Timmons, 5-5 So. Brittany Mello, 5-3 Fr. Nannilena White, and 5-9 7^th grader Malaka Frank.

Garrard County – Coach Scott Bolin’s Lady Lions finished 19-7 last season and will be very competitive in the 12^th Region again this season. The Lady Lions will be led by5-9 So. Kelly Smith who averaged 12 ppg last season. Other returning starters include 5-8 Jr. Devin Napier, 5-6 Fr. Devin Conley, and 5-9 Sr. Haley Meadows.

Grayson County – Coach Brad Johnson’s Lady Cougars finished 23-9 last season and despite the graduation of Shelby Tyra are favored to capture the 3^rd Region title this season. 5-9 Sr. Chelsea Pharris is a versatile scorer and 5-11 Jr. Kelsea Wilson who transferred in from Edmonson County can both score and rebound. Other key returnees include 5-10 Jr. Halee Johnson, 5-8 Jr. Kylee Gorby, 5-5 Sr. Alex Crowe, 5-8 Sr. Moriah Ashley, and 5-6 Sr. Sarah Taylor.

Knott County Central – The Lady Patriots finished 24-7 last season and Jeff Honeycutt takes over as coach this year. The Lady Patriots will be one of the top teams in the 14^th Region and will be led by two of the top players in the region; 5-5 So. Paige Slone and 5-6 Jr. Kelsie Jacobs. Other top returnees include 5-7 Jr. Sasha Pike, 5-7 Sr. Keisha Perkins, and 5-6 So. Regan King.

Lexington Catholic – The Lady Knights finished 14-14 last season and Chelsea Chowning takes over as head coach. Tony Talbott remains on staff as the assistant head coach. They will need to develop depth and rebound well to move up the ranks in the 11^th Region this season. 5-8 So. Octavia Wilson (14.2 ppg). 6-0 Jr. Alex Botkin (9.5 ppg. 6.9 rpg), and 6-0 Jr. Liz Walton are expected to lead Lexington Catholic this season. Other players expected to contribute include 5-4 So. Sarah Cawood, 5-7 Jr. Bonnie Rhule, 5-7 Sr. Kendra Shaw, and 5-10 Jr. Emily Johns.

Lincoln County – The Lady Patriots finished 24-5 last season and Cassandra McWhorter will take over as head coach. They gradusted five seniors but have some talent returning to compete in the 12^th Region this season. They have returning experience in 5-6 Sr. Kristen Griffith, 5-8 Sr. Korey Coleman, and 5-8 Sr. Morgan Reed. 5-7 So. Emily Fox should provide scoring punch and 6-0 So. Sydney Harris and 5-5 So. Ciara Saylor logged valuable minutes last season.

Marion County – Coach Trent Milby’s Lady knights finished 33-2 last season and captured the 5^th Region crown. They are favored to win the region again and are one of the top contenders to claim the state championship. The Lady Knights pressure defense and transition defense allows them to score points in bunches and turn a close game into a rout. Revenge will be a factor this season as the team is still stinging from a first round defeat to eventual state champion Mercy in the first round of the state tournament last year. Marion County has three of the top players in the state in 5-10 So. Makayla Epps (16.4 ppg). 6-1 So. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (13.5 ppg, 8.7 rpg), and 5-9 Jr. Bre Elder (12.5 ppg). 5-7 Sr. Shakila Goodin. 5-7 So. Patrice Tonge, 6-0 Fr. Alexus Calhoun, and 5-9 Jr. Emily Fenwick are also expected to log quality minutes.

Mercy Academy – Coach Mark Evan’s Jaguars started slow last season but steadily improved and finished 27-8 with a state championship. The Jaguars graduated some key players but return a solid group capable of competing for another 7^th Region crown and the state title again this season. 5-8 Sr. Juliann Miller averaged 13 ppg last season. Other key returnees include 5-10 Jr. Christine Roush, 5-11 Jr. Courtney Roush, 5-7 So. Whitney Hartlage, 5-5 Sr. Lauren Faris, and 5-8 Sr. Emily Goetz.

Murray – Coach Rechelle Turner’s Lady Tigers finished 30-5 last season and will contend for the 1^st Region crown again this season. They return three of the top players in the region in 5-9 Jr. Haley Armstrong, 6-2 Sr. Sian House, and 5-6 So. Janssen Starks. 5-11 Sr. Shelby Crouch provides additional inside help. 5-7 Sr. Amanda Winchester and 5-6 Sr. Lauren Dielman will log quality minutes. 5-9 Fr. Kalai Trice could give the team a big boost if she has recovered from an ACL injury.

Newport Central Catholic – Coach Ron Dawn’s Thoroughbreds finished 23-3 last season and captured the All “A” Classic title. They graduated two all region players but return an experienced group of players who will be very competitive in the 9^th Region this season. The key returnees include 5-8 Sr. Christine Ciafardini, 5-6 Sr. Kiley Bartels, 5-4 Sr. Hannah Thiem, 5-10 Sr. Ally Buchanan, 5-6 Sr. Brittany Fryer, and 5-11 Sr. Paige Piccola.

North Laurel – Coach Roy Bowling’s squad finished 20-9 last season and should be a top contender for the 13^th Region crown this season. Coach Bowling’s veteran squad has several capable point producers in 5-11 So. Center Cheyenne Madden, 5-6 Jr. point guard Tamara Crawford, 5-11 Jr. forward Ashley Woolums, and 5-11 Sr. guard Kelsie Smith. The Lady Jaguars has depth with several players vying for minutes.

Owensboro Catholic – Coach Ray Zuberer’s Lady Aces finished 18-16 last season and should be a contender for the 3^rd Region crown this season. Ownsboro Catholic will be led by all-everything 6-1 So.guard Rebecca Greenwell who averaged 26.6 ppg and 10.4 rpg last season. 6-0 Jr. Mary Kate Clemens is expected to put up good numbers this season. Other players expected to contribute include 5-9 Sr. Lauryn Yevincy, 5-4 Jr. Laura Riney, 5-4 So. Leah Greathouse, 5-6 Jr. Stephanie Dooper, and 5-4 So. Elizabeth Searcy.

Perry County Central – Coach Randy Napier’s Lady Commodores finished 18-6 last season but with the addition of talented transfer 5-11 Jr. Kendall Noble who averaged 22.5 ppg and 8.5 rpg and led breathitt County to four state tournament appearances are favored in the 14^th Region. Other key returnees include 6-0 Fr. Kayla Rankin (18 ppg, 11 rpg) and 5-6 So. Whitney Back (10.5 ppg). Another key returnee is 5-9 Sr. Kristen Bowen. 5-10 Sr. Alyssa Pratt, 5-10 Jr. Cassie Napier, 5-6 So. Brandi Campbell, 5-10 So. Pam Sebastian, and 5-10 So. Randi-Carol Napier will all compete for playing time. Coach Napier has a good mix of underclassmen and veterans competing for minutes this season.

Ryle – Coach Patti Oliverio’s Lady Raiders finished 21-10 last season and should be a top contender for the 9^th Region crown this season. The Lady Raiders will be led by versatile 5-10 Jr. Jenna Crittendon who averaged 14.9 ppg and 8 rpg last season. They also have an excellent guard rotation in 5-5 Sr. Abby Jump, 5-6 So. Dawn Johnson, and 5-7 Jr. Ashley Cheesman. 5-10 So. McKell Oliverio, 5-10 Sr. Liz Meyer, and 6-0 Jr. Whitney Dixon add needed inside size.

Sacred Heart Academy – Coach Donna Moir’s Valkyries finished 17-14 last season but was the hard luck team of the 7^th Region losing three starters due to season ending injuries. The Valkyries have an experienced team returning led by an excellent group of seniors. They will be led by speedy guard 5-4 Sr. Maddie Peabody (9.8 ppg) and 5-11 Sr. center Morgan Clemons (12.4 ppg, 8.6 rpg). Other key returnees include 5-11 Sr. Monica McGreal, 5-11 Sr. Annamarie Campbell, and 5-5 Sr. Hannah Washle. 5-6 Jr. Jade Tubb and 5-6 Fr. Raven Merriweather will also log quality minutes.

St. Joseph Central Catholic WV – Coach Shannon Lewis’ Irish finished 22-5 last season and captured the West Virginia Class A championship. They are expected to be led by 6-0 Sr. Sara Sang and 5-5 Jr. Amber Chadwick. They also have a solid freshman class including 5-8 Fr. Mychal Johnson, 5-4 Fr. Griffin Johnson, and 6-3 Fr. Terra Stapleton.

Southwestern – Coach Tim Rice’s Warriors finished 20-10 last season and will be one of the top teams in the 12^th Region. 5-7 Sr. Danay Fothergill is a prolific scorer who averaged 26 ppg last season. 8^th graders 5-7 Adison Corder and 5-6 Destiny Molden are excellent long range shooters and 6-1 Sr. Jessica Pierce is rapidly improving inside. 5-10 Jr. Hannah Grant and 5-7 8^th grader Brittany Combs are expected to contribute. Coach Rice has some promising young players with size in 6-0 7^th grader Elisabeth Lathem, 5-10 7^th grader Samantha Fitzgerald, and 5-11 8^th grader Dylana Fothergill.
