North Laurel (4-3)  vs.  Ballard (3-5)

 

North Laurel coach Roy Bowling started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Kelsie Smith, 5-7 Jr. Samantha Proffitt, 5-11 So. Cheyenne Madden, 5-5 Fr. Megan Bryant, and 5-6 Jr. Tamara Crawford.  Ballard coach Steve Kaufman countered with 5-11 Fr. Kianna Richardson, 5-11 Fr. Javonna Layfield, 6-2 Sr. Jaylan Bodiford, 5-6 Jr. Daryius Franklin, and 5-5 Jr. Melena Shanklin.

 

Ballard outscored North Laurel 21-6 in the second quarter on their way to a 62-47 victory.  Ballard scored 33 points off 29 North Laurel turnovers and held a commanding 44-18 advantage in points in the paint.

 

Ballard shot 54% from the field including one of four from the three point line.  The Bruins connected on seven of 12 free throws and pulled down 32 rebounds.  North Laurel shot 42.2% from the field including two of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Jaguars connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 22 Ballard turnovers.

 

Jaylan Bodiford led Ballard with 22 points and 11 rebounds.  Kianna Richardson and Javonna Layfield added nine and eight points respectively.

 

Cheyenne Madden led North Laurel with 18 points and seven rebounds.  Madden was six of eight from the field and six of eight from the free throw line.  Kelsie Smith added 12 points including two three point baskets.

Casey County trailed 24-21 at halftime but rallied to defeat Montgomery County 54-47.  Casey County shot 44.2% from the field including three of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Rebels connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 17 Montgomery County turnovers.  Montgomery County shot 35.7% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored  10 points off 16 Casey County turnovers.

 

Nicole Coffman led Casey County with 23 points, 13 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  BJ Hogue added 15 points.

 

Macie Spence led Montgomery County with 15 points and 11 rebounds.  Olivia Colliver and Destiney Taul added 13 and 10 points respectively.

Clay County raced out to a 22-10 first quarter lead on their way to a 59-38 victory over Rowan County.  Clay County shot 57.9% from the field including five of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored seven points off eight Rowan County turnovers.  Rowan County shot 26.7% from the field including six of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Vikings connected on eight of 16 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 10 points off 16 Clay County turnovers.

 

Kayla Smith led Clay County with 20 points and seven assists.  Smith was seven of 10 from the field and six of seven from the free throw line.  Alisha Mitchell added 19 points including five three point baskets.  Whitney Belle Jackson pulled down 12 rebounds.

 

Kathryn Duff led Rowan County with 10 points and five rebounds.  Tierra Hamilton added nine points on three three point baskets.  Keshia McClain also recorded nine points.

Madison Central defeated Letcher County Central by a score of 67-42.  Madison Central shot 46.8% from the field including three of 12 from the three point line.  They connected on six of 11 free throws and pulled down 30 rebounds.  Letcher County Central shot 31.4% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  They connected on six of eight free throws and pulled down 36 rebounds.

 

Ashton Feldhaus led Madison Central with 17 points.  Larryn Brooks added 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Jenna Cornelison and Erika Parks chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

 

Julie Cornett led Letcher County Central with 16 points and eight rebounds.  Kelah Eldridge added 10 points.  5-6 So. Vannah Breeding recorded six points and nine rebounds.

North Laurel defeated Montgomery County by a score of 60-58.  North Laurel shot 48.7% from the field including four of eight from the three point line.  The Lady Jaguars connected on 18 of 22 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 17 Montgomery County turnovers.  Montgomery County shot 36.8% from the field including four of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 25 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 29 North Laurel turnovers.

 

Kelsie Smith led North Laurel with 24 points including four three point baskets.  Samantha Proffitt added 13 points.  Cheyenne Madden recorded 10 points and seven rebounds.

 

5-6 So. Kierra Lockett led Montgomery County with 13 points.  Macie Spence and Olivia Colliver added 12 and 10 points respectively.  Destiney Taul recorded eight points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

The score was tied 29-29 at halftime but Letcher County Central shot 71.4% (10 of 14) from the field in the second half to earn a 64-56 victory over Rowan County.  Letcher county Central shot 55% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Cougars connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 12 Rowan County turnovers.  Rowan County shot 38.5% from the field including 10 of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Vikings connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 20 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 20 Letcher County Central turnovers.

 

Julie Cornett led the victors with 24 points and 10 rebounds.  Kelah Eldridge added 19 points including three three point baskets.  Haley Whitaker recorded 11 points and six assists.

 

Tierra Hamilton led Rowan County with 25 points including seven three point baskets and recorded four steals.  Keshia McClain added 14 points including three three point baskets and dished out five assists.

Casey County eked out a 52-51 victory over Ballard in the first semifinal game.  Casey County held a 25-7 advantage in free throw points.  Ballard attempted 30 more shots (63-33) from the field than Casey County and had 10 more field goals than the lady Rebels.

 

Casey County shot 33.3% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Lady Rebels connected on 25 of 28 free throws including 12 of 12 in the second half, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored seven points off 11 Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 33.3% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Bruins connected on seven of 15 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 18 Casey County turnovers.

 

Nicole Coffman led Casey County with 23 points including 17 of 20 from the free throw line and pulled down seven rebounds.  Jasmine Johnson added 13 points including three three point baskets.

 

Jaylan Bodiford led Ballard with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Melena Shanklin added 12 points and Javonna Layfield recorded eight points and 11 rebounds.

Clay County shot 66.7% from the field including one of six from the three point line.  The Lady Tigers connected on 22 of 30 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 36.1% from the field including seven of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on five of eight free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Clay County turnovers.

 

Kayla Smith led Clay County with 19 points.  Smith was six of nine from the field including one of two from the three point line and six of six from the free throw line. Whitney Belle Jackson added 18 points and 10 rebounds.  Jackson was five of seven from the field and eight of 11 from the free throw line.  Sabrina Smith also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

Larryn Brooks led Madison Central with 14 points and five assists.  Erika Parks and Jenna Cornelison each scored 12 points.  Kristin Congleton scored six points and pulled down eight rebounds.

Montgomery County defeated a cold shooting Rowan County by a score of 51-33.  The Lady Vikings were uncharacteristically cold from the three point line as they were only three of 29 from beyond the arc.  The second quarter was especially damaging to Rowan County as they were outscored 21-9.

 

Montgomery County shot 38.3% from the field including two of five from the three point line.  The Indians were 13 of 22 from the free throw line, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 18 Rowan county turnovers.  Rowan County shot 21.4% from the field including three of 29 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Vikings connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored nine points off 16 Montgomery County turnovers.

 

Macie Spence led montgomery County with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  Destiney Taul added seven points and nine rebounds.

 

Keshia McClain led Rowan County led Rowan County with 12 points, six rebounds, and five steals.  Kathryn Duff added six points and nine rebounds.  5-9 So. Mackenzie Townsend pulled down 10 rebounds.

Tamara Crawford led North Laurel with 20 points and six steals.  Ashley Woolum added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Cheyenne Madden recorded eight points and 13 rebounds.

 

Kelah Eldridge led Knott County Central with 13 points.  5-6 So. Vannah Breeding added seven points and eight rebounds.

Madison Central trailed 47-46 after three quarters but rallied to defeat Ballard by a score of 62-56.  Ballard controlled the boards but 32 turnovers sealed their fate.  Madison Central shot 44% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Indians connected on 15 of 24 free throws, pulled down 18 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 32 Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 40.8% from the field including one of three from beyond the arc.  The Bruins connected on 15 of 21 free throws, pulled down 48 rebound, and scored 13 points off 14 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Jenna Cornelison led the victors with 20 points and six steals.  Ashton Feldhaus added 18 points and five rebounds.  Larryn Brooks recorded 11 points, five assists, and four steals.

 

Jaylan Bodiford led Ballard with 20 points and nine rebounds.  Javonna Layfield added 17 points and nine rebounds.

Clay County continued their great shooting (62.9% from the field and 80% from the free throw line) in a 62-41 victory over Casey County.  Clay County shot 62.9% from the field including 65.2% in the first half and were two of five from the three point line.  The Lady tigers connected on 16 of 20 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 15 points off nine Casey County turnovers.  Casey County shot 32.7% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Rebels connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 16 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Clay County turnovers.

 

Morgan Chestnut led Clay County with 18 points and eight rebounds.  Chestnut was five of six from the field and eight of 10 from the free throw line.  Whitney Belle Jackson and Kayla Smith each recorded 12 points and seven rebounds.  Alisha Mitchell also reached double figures with 10 points.

 

Nicole Coffman led Casey County with 19 points.  BJ Hogue and Lakken Miller each recorded eight points.
