The 38th annual Girls Louisville Invitational is sponsored by Republic Bank/Coca-Cola and will feature 12 teams from Louisville and four invited teams from different areas of the state.  The 2009 event was cancelled due to weather conditions.  The first day will feature Ballard, Assumption, Jeffersontown, Eastern, Christian Academy of Louisville, Central, Bullitt East, and Fern Creek.  duPont Manual, Sacred Heart, Butler, and Mercy will play the first round winners on the second day.  Owensboro Catholic, Scott County, Boone County, and Marion County will make an appearance in the quarterfinals.  The semifinals and finals will be played on Saturday January 29th.  The games scheduled on January 26th were postponed due to weather conditions and the games were re-scheduled for January 27th at Male high School.

 

 

Tuesday January 25th – Day No.1

 

Assumption (9-8)  vs.  Ballard (7-10)

 

Assumption coach Stephanie Greathouse started the following lineup: 5-9 Sr. Maggie Hartlage, 5-10 Jr. Morgan Foley, 5-8 So. Katie Friedrich, 5-6 So. Dee Dee Sliter, and 5-6 Jr. Becca Durbin.  Ballard coach Steve Kaufman countered with 5-9 So. Alexus Colbert, 6-0 Fr. Javonna Layfield, 6-2 Sr. Jaylan Bodiford, 5-7 Jr. Daryius Franklin, and 5-5 Jr. Melena Shanklin.

 

Ballard led 47-35 in the final quarter but Assumption rallied to force overtime and win the game by a score of 56-53.  Assumption shot 35.1% from the field including two of 10 from the three point line.  The Rockets connected on 28 of 34 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 24 Ballard turnovers.  Ballard shot 41.7% from the field including three of eight from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bruins connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 24 Assumption turnovers.

 

Dee Dee Sliter led Assumption with 14 points including 10 of 12 free throws.  Maggie Hartlage added 12 points including two three point baskets.  Katie Friedrich chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.  Morgan Foley recorded six points and eight rebounds.

 

Jaylan Bodiford led Ballard with 16 points, 16 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  Daryius Franklin added nine points.

Jeffersontown scored 30 points off 21 Eastern turnovers in a 65-34 victory.  Jeffersontown shot 49% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on nine of 13 free throws and pulled down 39 rebounds,  Eastern shot 26.4% from the field including three of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on three of nine free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 16 Jeffersontown turnovers.

 

Aisjah Roan led Jeffersontown with 15 points including three three point baskets and pulled down 12 rebounds.  Lenette Holt added 14 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Ashley Boyd also scored 14 points including two three point baskets.  Danielle Betts chipped in with 12 points.

 

Jade Spaulding led Eastern with 12 points including two three point baskets.  Chalyse Taylor and Katie Sutherland added seven and six points respectively.

CAL defeated Central by a score of 59-57.  CAL led 28-10 in the second quarter but Central rallied to pull within two; 44-42 entering the final quarter.  CAL shot 44.9% from the field including six of 13 from the three point line.  The Lady Centurions connected on nine of 21 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 14 Central turnovers.  Central shot 35.2% from the field including three of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Jackets connected on 16 of 26 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 23 CAL turnovers.

 

China Dow led CAL with 27 points including two three point baskets.  Dow pulled down 13 rebounds, dished out thee assists, and blocked three shots.  Paige Gardner added 14 points and eight rebounds.

 

Brianna Averette led Central with 17 points, six rebounds, and four steals.  Crissa Washington also scored 17 points and pulled down four rebounds.  Nikcoa Jackson recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.

Fern Creek raced out to a 12-2 first quarter lead but Bullitt East rallied for a 59-48 victory.  Bullitt East shot 34.6% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Chargers connected on 17 of 25 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and scored seven points off eight Fern Creek turnovers.  Fern Creek shot 27.9% from the field including six of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Tigers connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored two points off 14 Bullitt East turnovers.

 

Nikole Isabel led Bullitt East with 25 points including four three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds.  Meredith Polson added 10 points and 10 rebounds.  Lindey Young recorded nine points, 17 rebounds, and two blocked shots.

 

Asia Grigsby led Fern Creek with 19 points including three three point baskets.  Rau Jau’ Terry added 13 points including two three point baskets.  Teonia McCune recorded nine points, 16 rebounds, and eight blocked shots.

Christian Academy of Louisville coach Don Rice started the following lineup: 5-8 Jr. Megan Brown, 5-7 So. Kate Joss, 5-8 Jr. Paige Gardner, 5-6 Jr. Katie Shaheen, and 5-10 So. Butler defeated Christian Academy of Louisville by a score of 57-40.  Butler shot 35.2% from the field including three of 10 from the three point line.  The Bearettes connected on 16 of 23 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 25 CAL turnovers.  CAL shot 27.5% from the field including one of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Centurions connected on 11 of 23 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 26 Butler turnovers.

 

Heather Wheat led Butler with 15 points, nine rebounds, nine assists, and six steals.  Aareon Smith added 13 points and nine rebounds.  Danielle Lawrence recorded six points and eight rebounds.

Mercy Academy defeated Bullitt East by a score of 52-43.  Mercy shot 35.3% from the field including two of 15 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 14 of 18 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 17 Bullitt East turnovers.  Bullitt East shot 36.2% from the field including two of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Chargers connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Mercy turnovers.

 

Lauren Faris led Mercy with 14 points including two three point baskets.  Juliann Miller added 12 points, six rebounds, and four assists.  5-8 Sr. Emily Goetz chipped in with eight points and nine rebounds.  Courtney Roush also scored eight points.

 

Lindey Young led Bullitt East with 14 points and seven rebounds.  Young was four of five from the field and six of seven from the free throw line.  Meredith Polson added 13 points and seven rebounds.

Monica McGreal led Sacred Heart with 19 points.  Annamarie Campbell added 11 points and seven rebounds.  Morgan Clemons recorded eight points, 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Maddie Peabody recorded five assists and seven steals.

Marion County coach Trent Milby started the following lineup: 5-8 So. Patrice Tonge, 5-6 Jr. Tessa Simpson, 6-1 So. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, 5-9 Jr. Bre Elder, and 5-10 So. Makayla Epps.  Mercy Academy coach Mark Evans countered with 5-11 Jr. Courtney Roush, 5-7 So. Whitney Hartlage, 5-10 Jr. Christine Roush, 5-5 Sr. Lauren Faris, and 5-8 Sr. Juliann Miller.

 

Whitney Hartlage hit a five foot “runner” at the buzzer to give Mercy a 52-50 victory over Marion County.  Mercy led 30-19 late in the first half but Marion County battled back to tie the game.  There were three lead changes and eight ties in the game.

 

Mercy shot 40% from the field including five of 15 from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on seven of 10 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Marion County turnovers.  Mercy held an 11-0 advantage in bench scoring.  Marion County shot 44.7% from the field including four of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Knights connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored three points off 11 Mercy turnovers.

 

Juliann Miller, Whitney Hartlage, and Christine Roush led Mercy with 12, 11, and 10 points respectively.  5-8 Sr. Emily Goetz added eight points and five rebounds.

 

Bre Elder led Marion County with 18 points including two three point baskets, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out four assists.  Makayla Epps added 13 points, eight rebounds, and three steals.  Kyvin Goodin-Rogers recorded 10 points, five rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots.

Sacred Heart defeated Scott County by a score of 72-50.  Sacred Heart shot 42.6% from the field including seven of 14 from the three point line.  The Valkyries connected on 13 of 17 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 21 Scott County turnovers.  Scott County shot 33.3% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 12 of 14 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 20 Sacred Heart turnovers.

 

Morgan Clemons led Sacred Heart with 27 points and 11 rebounds.  Monica McGreal added 18 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, and four steals.  5-6 Jr. Jade Tubb recorded 12 points on four three point baskets and four assists.  Maddie Peabody dished out nine assists and recorded six steals and Annamarie Campbell blocked five shots.

 

Kristen Stainback led Scott County with 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists.  Alex McKenzie added 10 points and 13 rebounds.  Tereka Guyn chipped in with seven points and five rebounds.

duPont Manual scored 32 points off 28 Owensboro Catholic turnovers in a 66-44 victory.  Manual shot 43.7% from the field including three of 19 from the three point line.  The Lady Crimsons connected on their only free throw, pulled down 43 rebounds, and held an 18-2 advantage in bench scoring.  Owensboro Catholic shot 32.6% from the field including one of six from beyond the arc.  The Lady Aces connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 18 Manual turnovers.

 

Mechael Guess led Manual with 29 points and six rebounds.  Guess was 14 of 18 from the field and one of one from the free throw line.  Leasia Wright added 12 points, five rebounds, five assists, and four steals.  5-9 So. Destony Curry also scored 12 points including two three point baskets.  April Wilson dished out eight assists.  Kara Wright recorded seven points and seven rebounds.

Sydney Moss hit a late basket to give Boone County a 71-69 victory over Butler.  There were nine lead changes and 13 ties in this game with Boone county holding a 51-42 lead in the third quarter.  Boone County shot 45.7% from the field including four of 14 from the three point line.  The Lady Rebels connected on 25 of 32 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 16 Butler turnovers.  Butler shot 50% from the field including four of 11 from beyond the arc.  The Bearettes connected on 17 of 19 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 14 Boone County turnovers.

 

Sydney Moss led Boone County with 25 points and 12 rebounds.  Stacie Shrout added 18 points including three three point baskets.  5-8 Jr. Elizabeth Switzer chipped in with 12 points.  Switzer was five of five from the field and two of two from the free throw line.

 

Aareon Smith and Megan Cureton led butler with 13 points each.  Danielle Lawrence and 5-8 So. Alexis Stallard added 11 points each.  Heather Wheat and MacKenzie Martinez each scored nine points and Wheat dished out six assists.

Kayla Styles, 5-10 Sr. Mechael Guess, 5-7 Jr. Leasia Wright, and 5-7 Jr. April Wilson.

 

Leasia Wright scored a basket in the final seconds to give duPont Manual a 53-51 victory over Sacred Heart Academy.  Manual led Sacred Heart 39-30 in the third quarter but the Valkyries rallied but could not notch a victory today.  The score was tied seven times and there were six lead changes.

 

Manual shot 37.9% from the field including one of 12 from the three point line.  The Lady Crimsons connected on eight of 18 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 29 Sacred Heart turnovers.  Sacred Heart shot 44.7% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc.  The Valkyries connected on 15 of 26 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 14 Manual turnovers.

 

Mechael Guess led Manual with 20 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Leasia Wright added eight points.  April Wilson recorded six assists and seven steals.

 

Monica McGreal led Sacred Heart with 18 points, nine rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Morgan Clemons added 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Maddie Peabody chipped in with 11 points.

Mercy Academy coach Mark Evans started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Emily Goetz, 5-7 So. Whitney Hartlage, 5-10 Jr. Christine Roush, 5-5 Sr. Lauren Faris, and 5-8 Sr. Juliann Miller.  Boone County coach Nell Fookes countered with 5-11 Jr. Sydney Moss, 5-7 Sr. Annie Browning, 6-0 Jr. Lydia Nash, 5-6 So. Jessica Jones, and 5-2 Sr. Stacie Shrout.

 

Mercy Academy defeated Boone County 75-68 in a game that had its share of momentum changes.  Mercy led 29-18 early in the second quarter but Boone County rallied to cut the deficit to four; 38-34 at halftime.  Boone County outscored Mercy 22-12 in the third quarter to take a 56-50 lead after three quarters.  Mercy outscored Boone County 25-12 in the final quarter to earn the victory.

 

Mercy shot 54.1% from the field including three of eight from the three point line.  The Jaguars connected on 32 of 37 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 14 Boone County turnovers.  Boone County shot 40.8% from the field including 11 of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Rebels connected on 17 of 24 free throws, pulled down 22 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 19 Mercy turnovers. 

 

Whitney Hartlage led Mercy with 16 points and six rebounds.  Juliann Miller added 14 points and seven assists.  Christine Roush chipped in with 12 points and nine rebounds.  Lauren Faris also reached double figures with 11 points.

 

Sydney Moss led Boone county with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Stacie Shrout added 16 points including five three point baskets.  5-4 Sr. Kayla Robertson chipped in with 13 points including three three point baskets.

Manual’s April Wilson recorded a steal in the closing seconds to ensure a 48-46 victory over Mercy Academy. Manual shot 35.6% from the field including six of 18 from the three point line.  The Lady Crimsons connected on 10 of 17 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 15 Mercy turnovers.  Mercy shot 25.5% from the field including three of nine from beyond the arc.  The Jaguars connected on 19 of 29 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Manual turnovers.  Both teams were plagued with foul woes as Christine and Courtney Roush fouled out for Mercy and Mechael Guess and Leasia Wright fouled out for Manual.

 

Kara Wright led Manual with 10 points and seven rebounds.  April Wilson added nine points, four rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  6-1 So. Kayla Styles chipped in with seven points and six rebounds.

 

Juliann Miller led Mercy with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Whitney Hartlage and Lauren Faris each recorded 11 points.  Emily Goetz pulled down nine rebounds.
