The 14th Annual Rick Bolus’ High Potential® Basketball Showcase Mini-Camp (Girls) was held in Georgetown, Kentucky at Georgetown College. This year's camp also included a junior division.
The camp director for this camp was Rick Bolus with thirty-eight years experience in the basketball business. Rick Bolus started the Rick Bolus High Potential® Basketball Recruiting Service in 1973. Mr. Bolus’ newsletters not only reach the desks of numerous college coaches nationwide, but also several all-star game directors. He has also coached girls' basketball, conducted girls' camps, and ran women's coaching clinics over the years.
A camp report will be made available via internet to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in the United States in early August. The camp features speakers on recruiting, academics, and basketball. Each player participates in five games over the two-day period. All players receive equal playing time as substitutions are done by the clock. There are fundamentals stations, team practice sessions, optional competition contests, and a written evaluation from the camper's league coach. The camp director is at camp both days observing each player's performance daily. A doctor is on call at all times and a certified trainer is at camp around the clock.
There were 146 players present at this camp. There were players from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, North Carolina, Texas, California, West Virginia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, and Colorado. They were placed on sixteen teams in three divisions. The North Division consisted of Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri. The South Division consisted of North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. The Junior Division consisted of Wisconsin, Wyoming, Vermont, and West Virginia. The Junior Division continues to be popular with a lot of promising young talent. There was also several talented young players who chose to “play up” at the High School Division.
5-0 8th grader Mikayla White (St. Nicholas Academy/Louisville, KY) was named Junior Division Camp MVP and 5-9 7th grader Myah Pace (Shelbyville West M.S./Shelbyville, KY) was named Junior Division Camp Runner-Up MVP. Mikayla White was named Top Shooter and 5-11 8th grader Aimee Jump (Gray M.S./Union, KY) was named Top Rebounder.
The Camp MVP for the High School Division was 6-3 Sr. Shelbi Chandler (Indianapolis Pike IN) who has verballed to Cincinnati. There were two Camp Runner-Up MVPs: 5-11 Jr. Aareon Smith (Butler/Louisville, KY) and 5-9 Jr. Makayla Williams (Wakefield/Raleigh, NC). Smith was also named Top Underclassman. 5-10 Sr. Nicole Bryant (North Oldham/Goshen, KY) was named Top Shooter and 6-0 Sr. Taylor Noe (Metcalfe County/Edmonton, KY) was named Top Rebounder. 6-0 So. Holly Huellemeier (Scott County/Georgetown, KY) was named Top Defender and also captured the Frontline 3-Point Shooting Championship. 5-11 Sr. Megan Ausdran (Baylor/Chattanooga, TN) was named Top Sleeper and impressed with her all around game. 5-9 Jr. Nakhyla Powell (Dubuque, IA), 5-8 Sr. Caroline Smith (Bradley Central/Cleveland, TN), 5-6 Sr. Jazmine Smith (Indianapolis Pike IN), 5-9 Sr. Katelyn Smith (Perry County Central/Hazard, KY), and 6-0 So. Ivy Brown (LaRue County Hodgenville, KY) also impressed this week.
6-0 Fr. Christessica Priddy (Hart County/Munfordville, KY), 6-1 Fr. Morgan Turner (Meade County/Brandenburg, KY), 6-0 8th grader Justus Martin (Shelby County/Shelbyville, KY), and 5-8 8th grader Malaka Frank (Elkhorn M.S./Frankfort, KY) were four young players who made the High School Division All-Camp team.
While it is impossible to mention every player here, many other players impressed with their ability, work ethic, and attitudes.
As mentioned before, a full camp report will be made available to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in early August by the camp director. While the staff was well pleased with this year’s camp, every effort will be made to improve the camp to make future versions even better.
