2011 Kentucky Girls 6th Grade Middle School State Tournament

Nine teams are entered to play in this tournament. They are Anderson County, Elkhorn, Middlesboro, North Laurel, Paintsville, Powell County, Russell County, Scott County, and Southern (Somerset). There will be a series of games played Saturday to determine seeding for the tournament which will begin Saturday afternoon.

Amelia Ackerman led Russell County with 14 points. Madison Sheppard led North Laurel with 16 points.
Scott County 42 Paintsville 32
Sidney Sutherland led Scott County with 17 points. Brylin Isaacs, Peyton Riddle, and Grace Mullins added seven, six, and six points respectively. Anna Keeton led Paintsville with 23 points.
Powell County 23 Southern 20
Brittany Brandenburg and Alisha Elam led Powell County with eight and seven points respectively. Taylor Cromer and Sierra Elder led Southern with 10 and eight points respectively.
Southern 27 North Laurel 25
Taylor Cromer led Southern with eight points. Madison Sheppard and Tonya Brunnett led North Laurel with 12 and six points respectively.
Powell County 27 Russell County 22
Alisha Elam and Gracie Hall led Powell County with nine and six points respectively. Morgan Johnson, Amelia Ackerman, and Audrey Coffey led Russell County with seven, five, and five points respectively.
Paintsville 37 Anderson County 11
Anna Keeton led Paintsville with 20 points. Kelsey Sutherland led Anderson County with four points.
Elkhorn 61 North Laurel 17
Kindall Talley, Olivia Hogan, and Josie Thacker led Elkhorn with 22, 12, and 11 points respectively. Hannah Lawson and Madison McDaniel led North Laurel with six and five points respectively.
Middlesboro 51 Scott County 39
Hannah Warren led Middlesboro with 19 points including three three point baskets. Blair Green added 17 points. Peyton Riddle led Scott County with 19 points.
Southern 24 Russell County 21
Taylor Cromer led Southern with 16 points. Amelia Ackerman and Makena Wade led Russell County with seven and six points respectively.
Scott County 50 Anderson County 18
Peyton Riddle, Sidney Sutherland, and Princess Valencia led Scott County with 13, 12, and nine points respectively. Busser and Harley led Anderson County with 10 and six points respectively.
Elkhorn 39 Powell County 16
Josie Thacker and Olivia Hogan led Elkhorn with 15 and 10 points respectively. Dakota Brown and Gracie Hall led Powell County with six and four points respectively.
Middlesboro 48 Paintsville 38
Blair Green and Rachel Hensley led Middlesboro with 16 and 15 points respectively. Anna Keeton and Elizabeth Williams led Paintsville with 20 and 15 points respectively.

Hannah Warren, Blair Green, and Rachel Hensley led Middlesboro with 13, 12, and 10 points respectively. Princess Valencia, Sidney Sutherland, and Jasmine Flowers led Scott County with 10, six, and six points respectively.

Elkhorn 44 Middlesboro 26 (Championship)
Middlesboro won two tough games this morning but the third game was not a charm as Elkhorn defeated them by a score of 44-26 to claim the championship. Elkhorn was led by Kindall Talley, Josie Thacker, and Emily Jordan with 14, 10, and 10 points respectively. Blair Green led Middlesboro with 10 points.

Conclusion:
While only nine teams were entered there was excellent talent on display this weekend. Elkhorn was very impressive in their championship run with several players having impressive outings. There were several other players in this tournament that showed a lot of promise for the future. The statistics mentioned in this report came from the official scoresheets and in some cases from the team scorebooks.
