The 15th Annual Rick Bolus’ High Potential® Basketball Showcase Mini-Camp (Girls) was held in Georgetown, Kentucky at Georgetown College. This year's camp also included a junior division.
The camp director for this camp was Rick Bolus with thirty-nine years experience in the basketball business. Rick Bolus started the Rick Bolus High Potential® Basketball Recruiting Service in 1973. Mr. Bolus’ newsletters not only reach the desks of numerous college coaches nationwide, but also several all-star game directors. He has also coached girls' basketball, conducted girls' camps, and ran women's coaching clinics over the years.
A camp report will be made available via internet to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in the United States in early August. The camp features speakers on recruiting, academics, and basketball. Each player participates in five games over the two-day period. All players receive equal playing time as substitutions are done by the clock. There are fundamentals stations, team practice sessions, optional competition contests, and a written evaluation from the camper's league coach. The camp director is at camp both days observing each player's performance daily. A doctor is on call at all times and a certified trainer is at camp around the clock.
There were 143 players present at this camp. There were players from Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, North Carolina, California, West Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin, New York, and Florida. They were placed on sixteen teams in three divisions. The North Division consisted of Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and Missouri. The South Division consisted of North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah. The Junior Division consisted of Wisconsin, Wyoming, Vermont, and West Virginia. The following is a list of players plus team designations:

The Junior Division continues to be popular with a lot of promising young talent. There was also several talented young players who chose to “play up” at the High School Division.
6-2 Fr. I’liyah Green (Male Louisville, KY) was named Junior Division Camp MVP and 5-6 8th grader Tasia Jeffries (Kammerer Louisville, KY) was named Junior Division Camp Runner-Up MVP. 4-11 7th grader Keyona Dyson (Ramsey Louisville, KY) was named top shooter and 5-9 8th grader Lindsey Johns (B. Michael Caudill Richmond, KY) was named top rebounder. 5-10 8th grader Rebecca Cook (Elkhorn Frankfort, KY) has rapidly improved and appears to be destined for future stardom. 5-11 8th grader Mallie Cornett (Model Lab Richmond, KY) logged quality varsity minutes last season and should enjoy a greatly expanded role this season. Also, watch for 6-1 Fr. Markeia Porter (TBA Louisville, KY) this season.
The Camp MVP for the High School Division was 5-11 Sr. Kasey Young (Danville KY). Young shoots the ball well and now puts the ball on the floor and slashes to the basket. 5-4 Sr. Kierra Muhammad (Paul Dunbar Lexington, KY) was named Camp Runner-Up MVP and impresses with her quickness and athleticism. 5-9 Jr. DaiJia Ruffin (Sacred Heart Louisville, KY) was named Top Underclassman and is difficult to defend. 5-5 Sr. Brittany Atkinson (Granville OH) is a deadly shooter and 6-1 Jr. Jordan Doram (Harrison County Cynthiana, KY) is a relentless rebounder. 5-8 Sr. Dee Dee Sliter (Assumption Louisville, KY) missed last season with an injury but could be the missing piece of the puzzle for Assumption this season.
6-1 Jr. Jessica Brown (Collierville TN) has excellent size, understands the game, and can shoot the ball. 5-8 Sr. Mikkah Hignite (Gallatin County Warsaw, KY) continues to impress with her all around ability and 5-9 Sr. Katie Pippen (Tates Creek Lexington, KY) appears to be poised for a good senior campaign. 5-7 8th grader Anovia Byars (Bourbon County Paris, KY) has excellent potential and 5-6 Fr. Lauren McBryar (Mooresville IN) was very impressive this week. 5-8 Sr. Kelsey Adwell (Pleasure Ridge Park Louisville, KY) is wrapping up a stellar high school career. 6-1 Jr. Brooke Todd (Paul Dunbar Lexington, KY) is a rapidly improving player with good size. 5-8 Sr. Serena Sandusky (Bryan Station Lexington, KY) is a talented player who always gives a consistent effort.
There are several girls who should have break-out seasons this year. They include 5-8 Fr. Kaylee Cotton (McCreary Central Stearns, KY), 6-0 Soph Christessica Priddy (Hart County Munfordville, KY), 5-6 Soph. Heidi Huffman (Mercer County Harrodsburg, KY), and 5-7 Fr. Kaci Currens (Anderson County Lawrenceburg, KY). These ladies have the talent and tenacity to make a big impact. There are several other players (to many to mention here) from Kentucky and from other states that impressed this week and could be key contributors at the varsity level.
As mentioned before, a full camp report will be made available to almost 2,000 women’s basketball college coaches in early August by the camp director. While the staff was well pleased with this year’s camp, every effort will be made to improve the camp to make future versions even better.
Ron Harrison’s reports on this and other basketball events appear on http://www.kyprephoops.com.
