2012 Republic Bank Holiday Classic (Girls) Participating Teams

Anderson County (Region 8)Coach Tony Kays’ Lady Bearcats finished 24-6 last season and should be a chief contender for the regional title this season.  6-0 Jr. guard MacKenzie Cann and 5-10 Jr. forward Eriel McKee are two of the top players in the  region and 6-1 Sr. center Kali Whiteside could be a big factor in the paint this season. 5-3 Jr. point guard Destiny Stewart returns after battling a knee injury last season and 5-4 So. Corrin Robinson is a tenacious defender.  This team is still relatively young but they captured a regional championship in 2010 with this nucleus and this squad is deep and talented.

 

Ashland Blazer (Region 16)Coach Bill Bradley’s Kittens finished 29-7 last season, captured the regional title and should challenge for the top spot again this season.  5-9 So. Alexis Robinson is ranked as the top player in the region.  5-6 Sr. guard Kaylyn Gambill is a deadly perimeter shooter and 5-11 So. Haley Sue Foutch is very effective in the paint. 5-8 Sr. Allie Stone is a solid contributor with a high basketball IQ.

 

Assumption (Region 7) Coach Steve Small’s Rockets finished 17-14 last season and should challenge for the regional title as well as a high ranking in the state.  6-6 So. Nora Kiesler is a game-changer at both ends of the court.  5-7 Sr. Dee Dee Sliter returns after missing last season with a knee injury and could be the missing piece of the puzzle.  5-11 Sr. Katie Friedrich is a solid performer capable of recording a double-double in any game.  Other solid contributors include 5-8 Sr. Kelsey Kaiser and 5-5 Sr. Brandy Hunter.

 

Bourbon County (Region 10)Coach Juan Byars’ Lady Colonels finished 13-17 last season and returns a lot of experience from that team.  5-7 So. Asia Sims, 5-8 Fr. Anovia Byars, 5-6 Sr. Olivia Sparks, 5-8 Sr. Jazmen Chenault, 5-7 Jr. Jessica Stamper, and 5-7 Sr. Kylie Hilander should be some of the top contributors this season.

 

Bowling Green (Region 4) Coach LaVonda Johnson’s Lady Purples finished 25-4 last season and will compete for the top spot in the region this season.  They are led by 5-5 Sr. Brittany Vaughn and 5-8 Sr. Diamond Marshall who should provide offensive firepower for this talented squad.  5-8 So. Keely Vincent and 5-10 Jr. Makayla Gray are expected to be key contributors.

 

Bryan Station (Region 11) Coach Donna Murphy’s Lady Defenders finished 16-15 last season and she returns an experienced group capable of making some noise in the region this season.  They will be led by 5-8 Sr. Serena Sandusky who averaged 14 ppg last season.  Other key performers include 6-1 Sr. Hallie Crumbie, 5-8 Sr. DeShante Clay, 5-10 Jr. Victoria McCoy, 5-6 Sr. La’bianca Frazier, 5-11 Fr. Baireshia Gill, 5-9 Jr. Lakyesha Stennis, and 5-7 Fr. Destiny Cozart.

 

Campbell County (Region 10) Coach Mike Murray’s Lady Camels finished 22-11 last season and have the talent to compete for the regional championship this season.  5-8 Sr. Taylor Robinson (13 ppg) and 6-3 Sr. Kaitlin Siegmundt (11 ppg) gives Coach Murray a potent inside-outside duo.  5-6 So. Carson Gray and 5-10 Sr. Molly Kitchen are expected to be valuable contributors.

 

Christian Academy of Louisville (Region 7)Coach Don Rice’s Lady Centurions finished 21-13 last season and welcome back 5-10 Sr. China Dow who averaged 23.2 ppg and 11.1 rpg last season.  5-8 Sr. Kate Joss returns after being injured last season and will provide perimeter offense.  Other key returnees include 6-0 Jr. McKenzie Campbell, 5-8 Sr. Chalisa Helm, and 5-6 Jr. Lindsey Dunn.

 

East Carter (Region 16)Coach Hager Easterling’s Lady Raiders finished 17-16 last season and returns some good young talent.  5-10 So. Megan Stickler is one of the top players in the region and 5-5 8th grader Kristen Mayo is a good young point guard.  5-10 Jr. Bryanna Greenhill, if healthy, will provide a big help to the Lady Raiders and could be one of the top players in the region.

 

Elizabethtown (Region 5)Coach Tim Mudd’s Lady Panthers finished 26-6 last season and will again challenge Marion County for regional supremacy.  6-1 Fr. Erin Boley and 6-2 So. Reauna Cleaver will lead the Lady Panthers and Coach Mudd has other talented returnees including 5-4 Jr. Kinsey Mudd, 5-7 Sr. Anna Bowling, 5-9 So. Livie Bowling, and 5-8 So. Darien Huff.  5-8 Sr. Alexis Powell returns after being sidelined with an ACL injury.

 

Franklin County (Region 11)Coach Joey Thacker’s Lady Flyers finished 17-16 last season but was hampered by the injury bug.  The Lady Flyers should be led this season by 5-5 Sr. Raven Timmons and point guard 5-4 Jr. Nannilena White.  5-9 Fr. Malaka Frank, 5-8 Fr. Dasia Kilbourne, and 5-8 8th grader Rebecca Cook are talented young players and 5-6 8th grader Princess Stewart appears to have a bright future.  5-2 Sr. Brittany Mello has battled injuries and illness throughout her career but could add stability and intangibles to the team’s success if healthy this season.

 

Lafayette (Region 11) Coach Allison Denton’s Lady Generals finished 15-14 last season and returns a young, talented squad.  6-3 So. Ashanti Thomas averaged 7 ppg and 7.8 rpg and has unlimited potential.  6-0 Jr. Sarah Cooley  averaged 9.7 ppg and 9.1 rpg last season.  5-8 Jr. Ken’yale Demus averaged 10.2 ppg.  5-11 So. Dee Givens can score in a variety of ways and 5-6 Jr. Megumi Nagahiro will be in the starting rotation.  5-7 Jr. Shirlisa Demus will play quality minutes and 5-8 8th grader Kiara Pankins displays ability and a high basketball IQ for her age.  This team should mature throughout the season and could peak at tourney time.

 

LaRue County (Region 5)Coach Travis Wootton’s Lady Hawks finished 17-11 last season.  They will be led by 6-0 Jr. guard/forward Ivy Brown who averaged 19.4 ppg and 9.6 rpg and is a very skilled performer.  5-10 So. Alexis Brewer is an athletic guard who averaged 14.2 ppg and is the other member of the dynamic duo.  6-2 Sr. Alisha Durbin is greatly improved and appears poised for a great senior campaign.

 

Lexington Catholic (Region 11) – The Lady Knights finished 20-12 last season and Scott True takes over as head coach this season.  Lexington Catholic graduated most of their size but do return 5-8 Sr. Octavia Wilson who averaged 12.5 ppg last season.  5-8 So. Rachel Blake has the ability and appears poised to have a good season.  5-5 Jr. Suzanne Miller, 5-4 Sr. Sara Cawood, and 5-4 So. Bailey Browning are key returnees.  Size will be a factor this season as Lexington Catholic does not have a player over 5-10.

 

Lincoln County (Region 12) Coach Cassandra McWhorter’s Lady Patriots finished 26-10 last season and are heavily favored to repeat as regional champions.  They will be led by 5-8 Sr. Emily Fox who averaged 18 ppg and is an excellent three point shooter.  6-0 Sr. Sydney Harris averaged 11 ppg and is a versatile scorer with three point range.  Other key returnees include 5-5 Jr. Rachel Spangler, 5-6 Sr. Ciara Saylor, 5-9 Sr. Kourtney Belcher, 5-9 So. Tiandra Hocker, 5-6 So. Spencer Sims, and 5-5 Sr. Chansler Gilbert.

 

Magoffin County (Region 15) – The Lady Hornets finished 29-5 last season and captured the regional championship.  Scott Castle takes over as head coach this season and the Lady Hornets will be led by 5-4 Jr. Jamie Castle who averaged 15.6 ppg last season.  Other key returnees include 5-4 Fr. Jasmine Howard, 5-7 Sr. Morgan Arnett, and 5-7 Sr. Morgan Connelley.  The Lady Hornets suffered a loss when 5-7 Jr. Madison Reed who averaged 12.6 ppg transferred.

 

Marion County (Region 5)Coach Trent Milby’s Lady Knights finished 34-5 last season, was runner-up in the state tournament, and appears to be poised for a great season.  Coach Milby will be led by two of the premier players in the state in 5-11 Sr. PG Makayla Epps (17.3 ppg) who can get to the basket as well as shoot the three and 6-1 Sr. Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (13.4 ppg, 9.1 rpg) who is a good rebounder and a versatile scorer.  The talent doesn’t stop there as 5-9 Sr. Patrice Tonge is a fierce defender who is very athletic and has improved her offensive game.  5-11 Sr. Logan Powell has great hands, is an excellent rebounder, and can score.  6-1 Jr. forward Alexus Calhoun is a good rebounder and defender .  5-3 8th grader PG Haeli Howard is a versatile performer with a bright future.

 

Meade County (Region 3) Coach Josh Hurt’s Lady Waves finished 18-15 last season and return all their key players from last year’s squad.  6-1 So. Morgan Turner averaged 14.2 ppg and 7 rpg last season.  5-7 Jr. Raley Johnson averaged 13.9 ppg.  Other key returnees include 5-3 Jr. Katelyn Cucino, 5-6 So. Addi Lynch, and 5-11 Sr. Maya Luney.

 

Mercy Academy (Region 6)Coach Mark Evans’ Jaguars finished 27-6 last season and will challenge for the regional title again this year.  Mercy graduated the Roush twins (Courtney and Christine) but returns a lot of talent and their trademark suffocating defense.  5-8 Sr. Whitney Hartlage is a deadly outside shooter and 5-7 Sr. PG Kayla Richardson is a versatile scorer who should have a great season.  Other key players include 6-0 So. Malerie Martin and 5-9 Sr. Victoria Dircksen.

 

Monroe County (Region 4)Coach Dwayne Murray’s Lady Falcons finished 27-6 last season but graduated 6-2 center Caylan Bybee.  They return several talented performers including 5-7 Sr. Madison Clements.  5-7 Jr. Kayla Murray returns after battling a knee injury last season.  Other key returnees include 5-7 Jr. Lauren Turner and 5-6 Sr. Molly Harlin.

 

Owensboro Catholic (Region 3)Coach Ray Zuberer’s Lady Aces finished 18-15 last season but will be favored to capture the regional title this season.  Their chances were greatly improved with the return of 6-1 Sr. Becca Greenwell one of the premier players in the state, who missed last season with an ACL injury.  Greenwell averaged 32.6 ppg and 12 rpg as a sophomore.  5-5 Sr. PG Leah Greathouse averaged 11.5 ppg last season.  5-9 So. Destiny Howard averaged 11.2 ppg and 8.6 rpg last season and is excellent around the basket.  5-9 Jr. Haley Garvin (5.9 ppg) is a versatile performer.  5-9 Jr. Kaylyn Pearson sat out last season after transferring from Owensboro and is a strong player who can score in a variety of ways.  Other players expected to contribute include 5-4 Sr. Elizabeth Searcy, 5-6 Jr. Lydia Miller, 5-5 So. Mallorie Polston, and 5-3 So. Alexis Hodges.  Newcomers include 5-8 Fr. Caroline Hayden, 5-8 Fr. Annabel Moore, and 5-5 Fr. Mikayla Berry.

 

Simon Kenton (Region 8)Coach Jeff Stowers’ Lady Pioneers finished 21-11 last season and their defense always makes them a tough opponent.  The Lady Pioneers will be led by 5-3 Jr. Abby Owings and 5-5 Jr. Christina Cook.  Other key returnees include 5-10 Jr. Rachel Cox, 5-5 Jr. Sarah Tomlin, and 5-7 So. Kelsey Schmiade.

 

Southwestern (Region 12)Coach Tim Rice’s Lady Warriors finished 21-10 last season and returns a young, talented squad that will be very competitive this season.  5-9 So. Adison Corder averaged 17 ppg last season and is a deadly outside shooter.  5-5 So. Destiny Molden also reached double figures last season and 5-7 So. Brittany Combs averaged 8 ppg.  5-11 Fr. Samantha Fitzgerald averaged 10.6 ppg and 7 rpg last season .  Other key returnees include 6-1 Fr. Elisabeth Latham and 5-11 So. Dylana Fothergill.

 

St. Patrick (Region 10) – The Lady Saints finished 16-14 last season and DeSarae Chambers takes over as head coach.  Some of the key players include 5-4 Sr. Jessica Fowler, 5-4 Jr. Hayley Hay, 5-7 Sr. Hannah Klee, 5-8 Sr. McKayla Likins, 5-7 Fr. Victoria McKay, 5-7 Sr. Hannah Ring, and 5-4 Sr. Kaitlyn Yeary.
