Mercer County captured the championship and finished with a 22-0 record. Elkhorn Middle and Whitley County both entered the tournament undefeated and Mercer County handed each their first loss of the season. Their semifinal win over Elkhorn Middle resulted in a 44-42 classic with the Lady Titans pulling out the victory in a game marked by frequent lead changes and excellent play. Mercer County took advantage of Whitley county’s foul woes in the title game and earned a 39-29 victory.
Mercer County finished the tournament with a perfect 6-0 record with an average victory margin of 14.5 ppg. Tournament MVP Seygan Robins averaged 16 ppg for the tournament. Another future star 5-10 Blair Green of Middlesboro had games of 17, 24, 25, and 12 points for a 19.5 ppg. Blair has the blood lines, her parents are Elgie Green and Debbie (Hoskins) Green.
