La Lumiere (IN) vs. St. Benedict’s Prep (NJ) (Quarterfinal)

 

La Lumiere coach Shane Heirman started the following lineup: 6-10 Sr. James Banks, 6-7 Jr. Brian Bowen, 6-11 Jr. Jeremiah Tilmon, 6-0 Fr. Tyger Campbell, and 6-4 Sr. Brandon Cyrus. St. Benedict’s Prep coach Mark Taylor countered with 6-9 Sr. Arnaldo Toro, 6-4 Jr. David Beatty, 6-10 Jr. Bourama Sidibe, 5-11 Jr. Jayd Gaulden-Saddler, and 6-4 Sr. James Scott.

 

La Lumiere avenged an earlier loss to St. Benedict’s Prep by eking out a 60-59 victory today.  The score was tied twice and there were four lead changes in this game.  La Lumiere shot 43.4% from the field including six of 12 from the three point line.  The Lakers connected on eight of 11 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored four points off 12 St. Benedict’s Prep turnovers.  St. Benedict’s Prep shot 38.2% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Gray Bees connected on 11 of 21 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 13 La Lumiere turnovers.

 

Brian Bowen led La Lumiere with 23 points, five rebounds, and three steals.  Jeremiah Tilmon added nine points and 10 rebounds.  Tyger Campbell also scored nine points.  James Banks recorded four points, eight rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Brandon Cyrus and 6-0 Jr. Isaiah Coleman-Lands each scored six points.

 

James Scott led St. Benedict’s Prep with 8 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, and four assists.  Bourama Sidibe added 13 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Arnaldo Toro recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.  Jayd Gaulden-Saddler chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and four rebounds.

Oak Hill Academy (VA) outscored Wasatch Academy (UT) 28-9 in the second quarter on their way to an 81-64 victory.  Oak Hill Academy (VA) shot 47.1% from the field including eight of 20 from the three point line.  The Warriors attempted 26 more shots (70-44) than Wasatch Academy.  The Warriors connected on seven of seven free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 16 Wasatch Academy (UT) turnovers.  Wasatch Academy (UT) shot 52.3% from the field including seven of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Tigers connected on 11 of 17 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored eight points off seven Oak Hill Academy (VA) turnovers.

 

Lindell Wigginton led a balanced Oak Hill Academy attack with 17 points including five of five free throws, four rebounds, and six assists.  Khadim Sy added 13 points and 10 rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Devontae Shuler also scored 13 points.  Braxton Key recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and four steals.  Ty-Shon Alexander chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.

 

Josip Vrankic led Wasatch Academy with 18 points, six rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Jackson Rowe added 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and two blocked shots.  Koby McEwen recorded 12 points, six rebounds, and five assists.  Jeff Baradziej chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.

Montverde Academy (FL) defeated Providence Day (NC) by a score of 70-54.  Montverde Academy (FL) shot 58% from the field including one of five from the three point line.  The Eagles connected on 11 of 16 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and committed 12 turnovers.  Providence Day (NC) shot 34.5% from the field including four of 21 from beyond the arc.  The Chargers connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and committed 16 turnovers.

 

RJ Barrett led Montverde Academy with 20 points and seven rebounds.  Davonta Jordan added 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  6-8 So. Silvio DeSousa recorded 10 points.  Simisola Shittu added eight points, five rebounds, and five assists.

 

Grant Williams led Providence Day with 12 points and eight rebounds.  Devon Dotson added 11 points and five assists.  Isaac Johnson recorded eight points and six rebounds.  Trey Wertz also scored eight points.  Josh Howard added seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals.

Aaron Augustin hit a floater in the lane with approximately 12 seconds left in the game to give Miller Grove (GA) a 67-65 victory over Findlay Prep (NV).  Skylar Mays missed a three point attempt at the buzzer for Findlay Prep.  There were six ties and nine lead changes in the game.  Miller Grove (GA) shot 40.6% from the field including eight of 30 from the three point line.  They connected on seven of nine free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 16 Findlay Prep turnovers.  Findlay Prep shot 51% from the field including four of nine from beyond the arc.  The Pilots connected on 11 of 19 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored eight points off nine Miller Grove turnovers.

 

Alterique Gilbert led Miller Grove (GA) with 20 points including three three point baskets and four assists.  Raylon Richardson added 12 points and five rebounds.  Colin Young recorded 10 points and five rebounds.

Riverdale Baptist trailed 41-36 after three quarters but outscored St. Francis Academy 21-9 in the final quarter to earn a 57-50 victory.  Riverdale Baptist shot 35.4% from the field including six of 14 from the three point line.  They attempted 20 more shots (65-45) from the field than St. Francis Academy.  The Crusaders connected on five of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 28 St. Francis Academy turnovers.  St. Francis Academy shot 42.2% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on nine of 16 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Riverdale Baptist turnovers.

 

Kaila Charles led Riverdale Baptist with 17 points, four rebounds, and four steals.  Teyjah Oliver added 12 points including two three point baskets and three steals.  Mangela Ngandjui recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.  5-6 Jr. Chanel Belton chipped in with 11 points including two three point baskets.  Morgan Smith added six points, eight rebounds, five assists, and five steals.

Ribault (FL) utilized their depth to pull away in the final quarter to defeat Seton Catholic (AZ) by a score of 49-41.  Ribault (FL) shot 33.3% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Trojans connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, scored 13 points off 20 Seton Catholic (AZ) turnovers, and held a 17-0 advantage in bench points.  Seton Catholic (AZ) shot 27.5% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Sentinels connected on 15 of 23 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored seven points off 14 Ribault (FL) turnovers.

Ribault (FL) dominated play tonight with their smothering defense and earned an impressive 75-49 over Riverside Baptist (MD).  Ribault shot 51.4% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  They connected on 20 of 30 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and committed 17 turnovers.  Riverdale Baptist shot 15.5% from the field including four of 18 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 21 of 33 free throws, pulled down 48 rebounds, and committed 20 turnovers.

 

Rennia Davis led Ribault (FL) with 23 points including 11 of 12 free throws, eight rebounds, and four assists.  5-8 Sr. Nola Carter added 15 points.  Carter was seven of seven from the field and one of three from the free throw line.  Day’Neshia Banks recorded 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.  5-4 Sr. Praise Russell chipped in with 11 points including three three point baskets.

Tyger Campbell, and 6-4 Sr. Brandon Cyrus.  Oak Hill Academy coach Steve Smith countered with 6-7 Sr. Braxton Key, 6-4 Jr. Ty-Shon Alexander, 6-9 Sr. Khadim Sy, 6-2 Jr. Matt Coleman, and 6-2 Jr. Lindell Wigginton.

 

Khadim Sy scored on a tip in at the buzzer to give Oak Hill Academy a 62-60 overtime victory over La Lumiere.  Oak Hill Academy led by 18 points midway through the third quarter but La Lumiere fought back and actually had a chance to put the game away in regulation but missed the first end of a one-and –one with 12 seconds left in the game.  Braxton Key hit two free throws with 6.6 seconds left in regulation.  La Lumiere had a last chance to win in regulation but missed a shot at the buzzer.  The comeback by La Lumiere was even more remarkable considering they lost Jeremiah Tilmon early in the game with an injury.  This was a big break through game for powerhouse Oak Hill Academy as this was their first championship win in five attempts at this prestigious event.

 

Oak Hill Academy shot 36.7% from the field including five of 16 from the three point line.  The Warriors connected on 13 of 20 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 10 La Lumiere turnovers.  La Lumiere shot 32.8% from the field including six of 26 from beyond the arc.  The Lakers connected on 14 of 19 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 15 Oak Hill Academy turnovers.

 

Braxton Key led Oak Hill Academy with 20 points including six of seven free throws and nine rebounds.  Lindell Wigginton added 16 points including two three point baskets and five rebounds.  Khadim Sy recorded nine points and nine rebounds.  Matt Coleman chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds.
