Lexington Christian Academy shot well from the field (54.2%) from the field and the free throw line (87.5%) in a 48-42 victory over Garrard County.  Lexington Christian Academy shot 54.2% from the field including one of four from the three point line.  The Lady Lions connected on 21 of 24 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 13 Garrard County turnovers.  Garrard County shot 32.4% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions connected on 13 of 23 free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 LCA turnovers.

 

Bethany Selby led LCA with 19 points including nine of 10 free throws, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Jaylin McClanahan added 11 points, three assists, and two steals.  Grace Combs recorded eight points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Emilie Teall pulled down nine rebounds.

Newport led 30-6 after one quarter on their way to a 69-18 victory over Iroquois.  Newport shot 47.5% from the field including nine of 18 from the three point line.  The Ladycats connected on four of six free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 21 Iroquois turnovers.  Iroquois shot 12.2% from the field including three of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Raiders connected on five of 18 free throws, pulled down 26 rebounds, and scored six points off 15 Newport turnovers.

 

Mya Meredith led Newport with 21 points including four three point baskets and nine rebounds.  Morgan McDay added 12 points.  5-5 Fr. Chalae Bell recorded six points, six rebounds, four assists, and six steals.  5-7 Sr. Caralyne Wallace chipped in with six points and four rebounds.

 

Makazia Swan led Iroquois with seven points, five rebounds, and five steals.  5-6 So. Laqueisha Thurston added six points on two three point baskets.  Aria Moore pulled down seven rebounds.

Wayne County vs. Menifee County

Menifee County eked out a 63-62 victory over Wayne County but the ending was not without controversy.  Wayne County’s Macey Blevins drove to the basket in the closing seconds and appeared to draw contact but did not get the call.  There were six lead changes in this game.  Menifee County shot 47.3% from the field including six of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Cats connected on five of 14 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Wayne County turnovers.  Wayne County shot 41% from the field including seven of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cardinals connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored two points off 12 Menifee County turnovers.

 

Emma Hacker led Menifee County with 25 points, 13 rebounds, and two steals.  Mara Walker added 13 points including two three point baskets.  Kelsey Woodard chipped in with nine points, three rebounds, and two blocked shots.  Alexuz Stidom recorded five points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three blocked shots, and four steals.

 

Macey Blevins led Wayne County with 30 points including three three point baskets, eight rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Haleigh Criswell added 12 points on four three point baskets and seven rebounds.  Mallory Campbell recorded eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

Woodford County vs. Madison Central

 

Woodford County coach Steve Jaco started the following lineup: 6-1 So. Kayla Harlow, 5-11 Jr. Nia Jaco, 6-0 So. Delaney Enlow, 5-4 Jr. Anna Manges, and 5-7 So. Abby Moffett.  (Woodford County is without two key guards who suffered concussions in a recent tournament in Tennessee).  Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey countered with 5-7 Sr. Blaze Pacheco, 5-7 So. Taleya Todd, 5-10 So. Je’Kauri McKeithen, 5-5 Sr. Bailey Vanover, and 5-6 Jr. Madison Barnard.

 

Madison Central was able to record 17 steals and scored 27 points off 30 Woodford County turnovers but had absolutely no answer for Woodford County’s potent low-high post offense in a 66-53 loss to the Yellow Jackets.  Delaney Enlow and Kayla Harlow combined for 41 points, 25 rebounds, and six blocked shots to dominate in the paint.  There were six lead changes and four ties in this game.  Woodford County pulled away in the final quarter for the victory.

 

Woodford County shot 62.8% from the field including on of three from the three point line.  The Yellow Jackets connected on 11 of 15 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored eight points off 11 Madison Central turnovers.  Madison Central shot 28.1% from the field including seven of 25 from beyond the arc.  The Indians connected on 10 of 11 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 30 Woodford County turnovers.

 

Delaney Enlow led Woodford County with 21 points, 17 rebounds, six assists, and six blocked shots.  Enlow was eight of nine from the field and five of seven from the free throw line.  Kayla Harlow added 20 points and eight rebounds.  Anna Manges recorded nine points and seven assists and Nia Jaco pulled down seven rebounds.

 

Blaze Pacheco led Madison Central with 14 points including four three point baskets and three steals.  Taleya Todd added 13 points including two three point baskets and three steals.  Je’Kauri McKeithen recorded eight points, 11 rebounds, and three assists.  Bailey Vanover added eight points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

Wayne County raced out to a 23-6 first quarter lead on the way to a 57-26 victory over Iroquois.  Wayne County shot 43.8% from the field including five of nine from the three point line.  The Lady Cardinals connected on 10 of 19 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 21 Iroquois turnovers.  Iroquois shot 22% from the field including two of 12 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Raiders connected on two of 18 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored six points off 15 Wayne County turnovers.

 

Alyssa Conn led Wayne County with 14 points.  Haleigh Criswell added 13 points including three three point baskets, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Macey Blevins recorded 12 points, seven rebounds, four assists, and three steals.

Madison Central vs. Garrard County

 

Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey started the following lineup: 5-7 Sr. Blaze Pacheco, 5-7 So. Taleya Todd, 5-10 So. Madison Central rallied in the final quarter to eke out a 52-51 come-from-behind victory over Garrard County today.  There were nine lead changes and six ties in this game.  Garrard County stayed in the game on the long range bombing of Madisyn Neeley (six of eight from beyond the arc) and some excellent work on the boards by Olivia Saylor and Katy Pozzuto.  However turnovers (29) proved to be their downfall.  This may prove to be a costly victory for the Indians as Taleya Todd left the game with a shoulder injury and was limited to 13:46 minutes of playing time today.

 

Madison Central shot 36% from the field including four of 17 from the three point line.  The Indians connected on 12 of 20 free throws, pulled down 27 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 29 Garrard County turnovers.  Garrard County shot 41.9% from the field including 10 of 22 from beyond the arc.  The Golden Lions connected on five of nine free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 17 Madison Central turnovers.

 

Bailey Vanover led Madison Central with 18 points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals.  Madison Barnard added eight points.  Je’Kauri McKeithen recorded seven points, nine rebounds, and three steals.  Blaze Pacheco also scored seven points.

 

Madisyn Neeley led Garrard County with 20 points including six three point baskets.  5-7 Sr. Ashlynn Clark added 13 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Katy Pozzuto and Olivia Saylor pulled down nine and eight rebounds respectively.  Fran Montgomery recorded six points and five assists.

Newport defeated Menifee County by a score of 72-66 in a game that had eight ties and nine lead changes.  Newport led 62-61 when Menifee County star Emma Hacker picked up her fifth foul and Newport outscore Menifee County 10-5 to earn the victory.  Newport shot 41.8% from the field including two of 13 from the three point line.  They connected on 14 of 22 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 21 Menifee County turnovers.  Menifee County shot 42% from the field including five of 17 from beyond the arc.  They connected on 19 of 24 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 19 Newport turnovers.

 

Morgan McDay led Newport with 27 points including two three point baskets, 11 rebounds, two assists, and four steals.  Mya Meredith added 24 points including eight of nine free throws, 12 rebounds, three assists, and three steals.  Kelis McGuire recorded nine points, seven rebounds, and four steals.

Lexington Christian Academy trailed 24-17 at halftime but outscored Woodford County 15-6 in the third quarter to take a 32-30 lead and held on to earn a 42-38 victory.  This game was a chess match as Lexington Christian Academy “ built a box” around the tall Woodford County duo of Delaney Enlow and Kayla Harlow in an attempt to neutralize their advantage in the paint.  The strategy allowed Abby Moffett some open looks beyond the arc and she responded with five three long baskets.  Bethany Selby and Grace Combs responded with some nice mid range shooting and Emilie Teall provided a solid game in the paint.

 

Grace Combs led LCA with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  Bethany Selby added eight points, five rebounds, and three blocked shots.  Emilie Teall recorded six points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

Newport defeated Lexington Christian Academy 69-60 in a game that was characterized by runs by both teams.  Newport led 32-21 at halftime but Lexington Christian rallied to take a 41-40 lead after three quarters.  Newport made their final surge in the last quarter to outscore LCA 29-19 to earn the victory.  The score was tied three times and there were seven lead changes in the game.

 

Newport shot 42% from the field including five of 12 from the three point line.  The Ladycats connected on 22 of 31 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 20 LCA turnovers.  LCA shot 30.4% from the field including three of 10 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on 29 of 37 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 19 Newport turnovers.

This was an excellent well run tournament with some good talent on display this week.  Garrard County coach Scott Latham and his staff does an excellent job organizing and running this event and it is well supported by the community.
