Spencer County vs. Madison Central

 

Spencer County coach John Howie Jr. started the following lineup: 5-10 Fr. Ashleigh Jones, 5-9 Fr. Alyssa Hitch, 6-1 Sr. Haylee Cox, 5-6 Sr. Alyssa Howie, and 5-7 Jr. Emily Sibert.  Madison Central coach Robert Cooksey countered with 5-10 Sr. Jekauri McKeithen, 5-7 Jr. Taleya Todd, 5-9 Sr. Logan Hudson, 5-6 Sr. Madison Barnard, and 5-6 Sr. Kelsey Powell.

 

Spencer County scored 33 points off 23 Madison Central turnovers and controlled the boards (42-28) in a 71-60 victory over the Lady Indians.  Spencer County shot 44.1% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line.  The Lady Bears connected on 14 of 27 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and held a 16-8 advantage on second chance points.  Madison Central shot 43.9% from the field including six of 14 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Indians connected on 18 of 30 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 17 Spencer County turnovers.

 

Alyssa Hitch led Spencer County with 23 points and eight rebounds.  Alyssa Howie added 19 points including two three point baskets, four rebounds, nine assists, and four steals.  Haylee Cox recorded 11 points, nine rebounds, and four assists.

 

5-7 So. Lacie Parks led Madison Central with 19 points including five three point baskets and two steals.  Taleya Todd added 11 points and six rebounds.  Jekauri McKeithen recorded 10 points and six rebounds.

Rockcastle County defeated McLean County by a score of 50-23.  Rockcastle County shot 39.2% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Rockets connected on six of 10 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 27 McLean County turnovers.  McLean County shot 22.2% from the field including zero of two from beyond the arc.  The Lady Cougars connected on three of 12 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored seven points off 17 Rockcastle County turnovers.

 

5-10 8th Grader Keelee King led Rockcastle County with 13 points including three three point baskets in 17 minutes of playing time.  Mackenzie Himes added 10 points, seven rebounds, and two steals.  Casey Coleman chipped in with seven points.

 

Makena Rush led McLean County with five points and nine rebounds.  5-10 8th Grader Lauren Baggett added five points and six rebounds.

Lafayette held an 18-0 advantage in fast break points in a 63-42 victory over Madison Southern.  Lafayette shot 37% from the field including two of five from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 21 of 32 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 25 Madison Southern turnovers.  Madison Southern shot 25.5% from the field including four of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on 10 of 18 free throws, pulled down 41 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 17 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Lindi DeBilzan led Lafayette with 27 points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocked shots, and five steals.  Macey Goff added 25 points, 15 rebounds,  two assists, and four steals.

 

Samantha Cornelison led Madison Southern with 18 points including three three point baskets, 10 rebounds, and three steals.  Sunni Walters added 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  5-9 Jr. Skylar Sparks recorded six points, six rebounds, and three assists.

Leslie County raced out to a 21-10 first quarter lead on their way to a 59-42 victory over Garrard County.  Leslie County shot 31.9% from the field including eight of 29 from the three point line.  The Lady Eagles connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 52 rebounds, and scored 22 points off 26 Garrard County turnovers.  Garrard County shot 19.4% from the field including six of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 49 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 25 Leslie County turnovers.

 

Lexy Meyers led Leslie County with 13 points including three three point baskets, 14 rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.  Hannah Gay added 11 points including three three point baskets, eight rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Kaley Horton recorded 10 points, nine rebounds, and two steals.  Haley Simpson added eight points, five rebounds, four assists, and six steals.

Phebe McHargue led Harlan County with 17 points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, four assists, and three steals.  McHargue was seven of eight from the field including two of two from beyond the arc, and one of one free throw..  Katelyn Johnson added 16 points, three rebounds, and four assists.  Reanna Middleton recorded 14 points including four three point baskets and three rebounds.  Breann Turner added 12 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists.

Spencer County coach John Howie Jr. started the following lineup: 5-10 Fr. Ashleigh Jones, 5-9 Fr. Alyssa Hitch, 6-1 Sr. Haylee Cox, 5-6 Sr. Alyssa Howie, and 5-7 Jr. Emily Sibert.  Rockcastle County coach Chrysti Noble countered with 5-10 So. Casey Coleman, 5-7 Sr. Emma Bullens, 5-11 Jr. Mackenzie Himes, 5-4 Jr. Shelby Newland, and 5-6 Sr. Kassi Lay

 

Rockcastle County led 39-33 after three quarters but Spencer County outscored the Lady Rockets 21-4 in the final quarter to earn a 54-43 victory.  The score was tied three times and there were three lead changes in the game.  Spencer County shot 42.4% from the field including three of 11 from the three point line.  The Lady Bears connected on 23 of 24 free throws (95.8%), pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Rockcastle County turnovers.  Rockcastle County shot 43.2% from the field including three of 13 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Rockets connected on two of three free throws, pulled down 17 rebounds, and scored 21 points off 17 Spencer County turnovers.

 

Alyssa Howie led Spencer County with 25 points including 11 of 12 free throws. three rebounds, and five assists.  Alyssa Hitch added 12 points, three rebounds, and three steals.

 

Mackenzie Himes led Rockcastle County with 14 points and three rebounds.  Casey Coleman added nine points, five rebounds, and five assists.

Anaya Brown, 5-10 Sr. Lindi DeBilzan, 5-11 Sr. Macey Goff, 5-6 Fr. Lauren Walton, and 5-7 Fr. Olivia Cathers. 

 

Lafayette defeated Leslie County by a score of 63-55.  The score was tied four times and there were eight lead changes in the game.  Lafayette shot 40.7% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line.  The Lady Generals connected on 13 of 23 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Leslie County turnovers.  Leslie County shot 45.5% from the field including nine of 23 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Eagles connected on six of 14 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 13 Lafayette turnovers.

 

Lindi DeBilzan led Lafayette with 26 points including four three point baskets, seven rebounds, three assists, and five steals.  Anaya Brown added 11 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals.  Macey Goff recorded 10 points, six rebounds, and two steals.  Lauren Walton chipped in with seven points, five rebounds, and five assists.

 

Lexy Meyers led Leslie County with 20 points including four three point baskets and two steals.  Haley Simpson added 12 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Hannah Gay recorded 11 points including three three point baskets, five assists, and three steals.  Kaley Horton pulled down eight rebounds.

This event features ten teams with each playing three games in a round robin format.  The records for this event were as follows: Spencer County (3-0), Lafayette (3-0), Rockcastle County (2-1), Harlan County (2-1), Leslie County (2-1), McLean County (2-1), Madison Southern (1-2), Garrard County (0-3), Johnson Central (0-3), and Madison Central (0-3).  This is an excellent event for this part of the season to allow coaches to either sharpen their team or to fix problems and work on player rotations to prepare for the rest of the season.  The sponsors are much appreciated and Madison Central does an excellent job hosting this event.
