2019 7th Grade Kentucky Basketball Commission Middle School State Championship (Girls)

There were twenty five teams entered in this tournament and placed into seven pools as follows:  Pool A: Elkhorn, Edythe J. Hayes, Holmes, and Jackson County.  Pool B: Casey County, Mullins, North Laurel, and Johnson (LOU).  Pool C: Ashland, Henderson County, Southern (LEX), and Meece.  Pool D: Knox County, Morton, Menifee County, and Anderson County.  Pool E: Robert Campbell, Lincoln County, and Green County.  Pool F: Meyzeek, Southwestern Pulaski, and Leestown, and Pool G: Bardstown, Northern Pulaski, and Trailblazers.  Each team will play in two pool games and then enter the tournament.  Losers of the first round games will be entered in the Silver Bracket and the loses of the second round games will be entered in the Gold Bracket while the winners of the second round games will advance in the Championship Tournament Bracket.

The North Laurel Lady Jaguars seventh grade team is the best in the state again as their sixth grade team won last year and they captured the championship this season by a score of 48-32 over a good Elkhorn squad.  North Laurel dominated this weekend led by the Tournament Most Outstanding Player Halle Collins who won the same award last year as a sixth grader.  The victorious North Laurel team was coached by Haley Ratliff and consisted of players Bella Sizemore, Saige McClure, Halle Collins, Brooke Nichelson, Ellie Adams, Kelsie Smith, Maria Yount, Kierra Larkey, Abby Hubbard, Holly Mathis, Carley Evans, Hannah Hensley, Cecile Craig, and Kyra Lewis.

 

All Tournament First Team – Halle Collins (North Laurel) (MVP), Bella Sizemore (North Laurel), Brooke Nichelson (North Laurel), Madison Jackson (Elkhorn), Leia Hogan (Elkhorn), Lainey Johnson (Anderson County), Khia Robinson (Ashland), Anieja Russell (Johnson LOU), Haley Combs (Meece), Nariyah Crowe (Bardstown), and Sydney Hurst (Knox County).

 

All Tournament Second Team – Saige McClure (North Laurel), Anna Kemp (Henderson County), Aaliyah Collins (Holmes), Amari Sims (Morton), Ciara Byars (Robert Campbell), Shalyne Baker (Menifee County), Grace Bale (Green County), Abby Gilbert (Jackson County), Jordyn McDonald (Southwestern Pulaski), Alexia Baldock (Lincoln County), Cam Ridderikhoff (Elkhorn), and Madeline Butcher (Northern Pulaski).

Congratulations to all the participants in another quality event this weekend.  Congratulations to the staff at the Kentucky Basketball Commission for another great effort in putting together another top flight tournament with several players to watch at the high school level down the road.
