2009 National City/KHSAA Boy's State Tournament

Lexington KY March 20th Day 3

Grayson County (26-6)  vs.  West Jessamine (27-8) Quarterfinal  -  West Jessamine defeated Grayson County by a score of 72-67.  West Jessamine shot 56.8% from the field including four of 11 from the three point line.  The Colts connected on 26 of 36 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored eight points off eight Grayson County turnovers.  Grayson County shot 40% from the field including 12 of 34 from beyond the arc.  The Cougars connected on seven of 11 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored seven points off 11 West Jessamine turnovers.

5-11 Sr. Jarrod Polson led West Jessamine with 22 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.  6-3 Sr. Jonathan Rehner added 14 points and eight rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Nick Zieman chipped in with 13 points. 6-3 So. Dylan Pohl also reached double figures with 10 points.

5-10 Jr. Travis Johnston led Grayson County with 26 points including four three point baskets.  6-2 Jr. Aaron Deviney added 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Eastern  (31-2)  vs.  Central  (17-14)  Quarterfinal  -  Central trailed 54-48 at the end of three quarters but rallied to defeat Eastern by a score of 71-65. 

Central shot 53.2% from the field including six of 11 from the three point line.  The Yellow Jackets connected on 15 of 25 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 11 Eastern turnovers.  Eastern shot 41.7% from the field including six of 20 from beyond the arc.  The Eagles connected on nine of 14 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 12 Central turnovers.

5-9 Sr. Alex Morrison led Central with 21 points including five three point baskets.  6-4 Sr. Ridge Wilson added 16 points and 13 rebounds.  6-4 Jr. Tim Patterson chipped in with 12 points and seven rebounds.  5-10 Sr. Dawan Robinson recorded nine points and eight assists.

6-3 Sr. Chris Dowe led Eastern with 14 points including three three point baskets.  6-4 So. Lyonell Gaines added 13 points and eight rebounds.  6-3 So. Jon Davis chipped in with 12 points.  6-1 Jr. Delquan Thomas also reached double figures with 10 points.

Holmes  (33-2)  vs.  Lexington Catholic  (26-7)  Quarterfinal  -  Holmes dominated play tonight with a 72-56 victory over Lexington Catholic.  Holmes connected on seven three point baskets in the first half to take a 45-23 halftime lead.  Lexington Catholic rallied to pull within 10; 50-40 early in the fourth quarter but Holmes responded with several crowd pleasing dunks to pull away from the Knights who battled until the buzzer.

Holmes shot 54.7% from the field including eight of 15 from the three point line.  The Bulldogs connected on six of nine free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 13 Lexington Catholic turnovers.  Lexington Catholic shot 31.3% from the field including only two of 16 from beyond the arc.  The Knights connected on 14 of 21 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 24 Holmes turnovers.

6-4 Jr. Ricardo Johnson led Holmes with 15 points and 10 rebounds.  5-11 Sr. JaMel Riley also tallied 15 points including three three poin t baskets and dished out six assists.6-3 Jr. Jeremiah Johnson chipped in with 14 points and 12 rebounds.  6-7 Jr. Elijah Pittman recorded 12 points and nine rebounds.

6-7 Jr. Tanner Peurach led Lexington Catholic with 15 points.  6-3 Sr. Taylor Botkin added 14 points and six rebounds.  6-0 Fr. Jaylen Beckham chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds.

Elliott County  (31-2)  vs.  Shelby Valley  (31-4)  Quarterfinal  -  Elliott County avenged an earlier loss to Shelby Valley with a 75-69 victory tonight.  Elliott County held a 29-13 advantage in free throw points.

Elliott County shot 39.6% from the field including eight of 22 from the three point line.  The Lions connected on 29 of 40 free throws, pulled down 44 rebounds, and scored six points off nine Shelby Valley turnovers.  Shelby Valley shot 32.9% from the field including eight of 24 from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 13 of 21 free throws, pulled down 43 rebounds, and scored nine points off 13 Elliott County turnovers.

6-2 Sr. Ethan Faulkner led Elliott County with 20 points including 13 of 14 free throws, and pulled down eight rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Jonathan Ferguson added 16 points including three three point baskets.  6-7 So. Timmy Knipp chipped in with 15 points, 10 rebounds, and four blocked shots.  6-2 Sr. Evan Faulkner also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  6-2 Sr. Chris Knipp also reached double figures with 11 points.

5-11 Jr. Elisha Justice led Shelby Valley with 25 points including three three point baskets and pulled down seven rebounds.  6-5 Jr. Tyler Newsome added 14 points including three three point baskets.  6-6 Jr. Ashley Hatfield chipped in with 11 points.  5-10 Sr. Logan Bryant added seven points and 10 rebounds.  6-3 Jr. Taylor Newsome recorded six points and 15 rebounds.
