Battle of the Bluegrass

This event was held December 5th, 2009 at the Frankfort Civic Center in Frankfort KY.  There were seven games played with the first two being girls’ games and the last five featuring the boys.

Clay County  (0-0)  vs.  Marion County (0-0)  (Girls)

Marion County raced out to a 30-11 halftime lead on their way to a 54-35 victory over Clay County.  Marion County’s pressure defense forced Clay County into several turnovers in the first half when the game was decided.

5-9 Fr. Makayla Epps led Marion County with 20 points and 6-0 Sr. Jassmine Franklin added 11 points.  5-7 Jr. Brooke Roberts added nine points on three three point baskets.  5-7 Jr. Kayla Smith and 5-10 Sr. Jordan Phillips led Clay County with eight points each.  5-5  So. Alisha Mitchell and 6-1 Jr, Whitney Bell Jackson added six points each.  Jackson was hampered with foul problems today and fouled out with 4:38 remaining in the game.

Letcher County Central (2-0)  vs.  Franklin County (1-0)  (Girls)

Franklin County captured a hard fought 59-55 battle over Letcher County Central today.  Franklin County would take a double digit lead then Letcher County Central would battle back to close the margin.  Franklin County led 53-41 in the final quarter but Letcher County Central rallied to close the margin.

5-11 Sr. Chelsea Craig led the victors with 16 points.  5-11 Sr. Andrea Howard and 5-10 So. Ashli Mayes added 12 and 10 points respectively.  5-10 Sr. Shannon Bays, 5-5 Fr. Kelah Eldridge, and 5-9 Fr. Julie Cornett led Letcher County Central with 13, 13, and 11 points respectively.

Boone County (2-0)  vs.  West Jessamine (0-0)  (Boys)

Boone County defeated West Jessamine 57-51 in overtime today.  West Jessamin’s Dylan Pohl hit a three point basket in the closing seconds of regulation to knot the score at 45-45  and send the game to overtime.  Boone County behind Ryan Popp’s nine points in overtime took control and earned the victory.

6-0 Sr. Mike Gabbard led the victors with 19 points.  6-0 Sr. Ryan Popp added 11 points.  6-3 Sr. Jarrod Polson led West Jessamine with 15 points.  6-4 Jr. Dylan Pohl, 6-4 Sr. Gus Sherrow, and 5-11 Sr. Keston Bartholomew added 12, 12, and 10 points respectively.

Scott (0-0)  vs.  Male (0-1)  (Boys)

Scott took advantage of their superiority on the boards to pull away in the final quarter to defeat Male by a score of 64-55.  6-4 Sr. Jacob Niederegger led the victors with 22 points, 18 coming in the first half.  6-4 Sr. Keylo Jones added 16 points and 11 rebounds.  6-1 Jr. Kellen Smith recorded 13 points.  5-11 Sr. D’Carlo Hayes led Male with 19 points.  6-0 Sr. Kevin Glenn and 6-2 Jr. Chris Way added 11 and nine points respectively.

Scott  (64) - Jones 16, Niederegger 22, O’Conner 4, Haynes 7, Smith 13, Farris 2.

Male  (55) - Pillischafske 0, Horne 6, Moore 7, Glenn 11, Hayes 19, Way 9, Logan 3.

 

Knott County Central (1-0)  vs.  McCreary Central (0-1)  (Boys)

Knott County Central pulled out a 65-58 decision in a very competitive battle.  6-1 Sr. Stuart Stamper led the victors with 27 points including four three point baskets.  6-2 So. Zack Davis added 11 points including three three point baskets.  6-1 Sr. Tate Cox who was plagued with foul problems added nine points.  6-1 Sr. Aaron Watts had an excellent game for McCreary Central and led the Raiders with 30 points including five three point baskets.  6-0 Sr. Zack Roark added 16 points.

Knott County Central  (65) - Ratliff 1, Bartrum 6, Roberts 2, Stamper 27, Cox  9, M. Slone 6, Mullins 3, Davis 11.

McCreary Central  (58) - Roark 16, Perry 1, Privett 3, Wright 0, Watts 30, Dixon 8.

 

Clay County (1-0)  vs.  Franklin County (1-0)  (Boys)

Clay county defeated Franklin County in an entertaining hard fought battle with the Tigers winning by a score of 50-48.  6-5 Jr. Adam Gay led the victors with 16 points and showed range on his shot with two three point baskets.  6-3 Sr. D.J. Wilson also reached double digits with 13 points.  6-4 Sr. Vance Hall was very impressive tonight as he led Franklin County with 26 points.

Franklin-Simpson  vs.  Scott County (Boys)

Scott County scored 36 points off 26 Franklin-Simpson turnovers to pull away for an 85-63 victory.  The Franklin-Simpson team was very competitive in the first half but the Scott County defensive pressure finally took it’s toll.

Scott County shot 51.7% from the field including four of 10 from the three point line.  The Cardinals connected on 19 of 32 free throws and pulled down 33 rebounds.  Franklin-Simpson shot 36.7% from the field including three of seven from beyond the arc.  The Wildcats connected on 24 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 17 Scott County turnovers.

6-4 Sr. Chad Jackson led Scott County with 15 points, five assists, and four steals.  6-8 Sr. Dakotah Euton also recorded 15 points.  6-2 Sr. Ge-Lawn Guyn and 6-3 Sr. Austin Flannery recorded 13 and nine points respectively.

6-4 Sr. Mickey Lewis led Franklin-Simpson with 21 points and five rebounds.  6-2 Jr. Jalen Bell added 10 points and seven rebounds.  5-9 So. Jerrell Wickware recorded 10 points.
