Sayre vs. Berea (Boys)

SAYBER(Boys)

Sayre (7-2)  vs.  Berea (4-5) January 4,2010

Sayre coach Ted Hall started the following lineup: 6-5 Fr. Ray Brewer, 5-10 Jr. Griffin Miller, 6-7 8th grader Dakari Johnson, 5-10 Jr. Cabot Haggin, and 5-7 Fr. Mike Smith.  Berea coach Bill Smallwood countered with 6-0 Jr. Nathan Vaughn, 6-2 Sr. Jon Shearer, 6-2 Sr. Nate Arvin, 5-11 Sr. Jeremy Hamilton, and 5-11 So. Ben Miller.

Berea led 20-12 in the second quarter but Sayre rallied for a 47-44 victory.  Sayre held a 21-4 advantage in free throw points.  Sayre shot 40.6% from the field including zero of six from the three point line.  The Spartans connected on 21 of 26 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored six points off seven Berea turnovers.  Berea shot 36%  from the field including four of 18 from beyond the arc.  The Pirates connected on four of seven free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored seven points off eight Sayre turnovers.

Mike Smith led Sayre with 18 points including 10 of 11 free throws.  Dakari Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds.  Griffin Miller chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds.

Nathan Vaughn and Nate Arvin led Berea with nine points each.

Berea     12   11    12     9   -  44

Sayre (47) – Brewer 2, Miller 10. Johnson 13, Haggin 4, Smith 18.

Berea (44) – Vaughn 9, Shearer 6, Arvin 9, Hamilton 2, Miller 6, Ambrose 6, Hubbard 2, Scudder-Davis 1, Lilly 3.
