All  “A” Classic Day 1 (Girls)

Richmond, KY

 

 

January 27, 2010 – The first day featured the girls teams playing opening round games.

 

Harlan 62 Whitefield Academy 47 – Harlan shot 50% from the field in an opening round victory over Whitefield Academy.  5-7 Sr. Sarah Scruggs led Harlan with 15 points, 12 rebounds, and five steals.  6-2 So. Ashley Mullins added 15 points and six rebounds.  5-5 Sr. Cheyenne Hamblin chipped in with 12 points.  6-1 Sr. Ann Corey Johnson recorded 11 points and 10 rebounds.  5-5 Sr. Brooke Willett led Whitefield Academy with 17 points including three three point baskets.  5-6 Sr. Abigail Halleron added 13 points, 12 rebounds, and four steals.

Holy Cross (Louisville)  67  Betsy Layne  53 – Holy Cross trailed 44-43 entering the final period but outscored Betdy Layne 24-9 in the final period to earn the victory.  6-2 Sr. Olivia Moore led the victors with 21 points and 12 rebounds.  5-6 So. Kim Mingus added 17 points and 5-8 Sr. Lindsey Roarx chipped in with 11 points and 11 rebounds.  5-8 Jr. Taylor Hott led Betsy Layne with 19 points.  5-7 Sr. Lindsey Martin and 5-6 Sr. Megan Hamilton added 14 and 11 points respectively with each recording three three point baskets.

Lexington Christian Academy  69  Russell 42 – LCA scored 30 points off 33 Russell turnovers in their victory.  6-2 Sr. Sarah Beth Barnette led LCA with 18 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals.  5-5 Jr. Rachel Cox added 15 points including three three point baskets.  5-11 Jr. Kelli Rinehart and 5-7 8th grader Katelin Bundy added 10 points each.  5-4 Sr. Sarah Hanson led Russell with 15 points and seven rebounds.

Owensboro Catholic  59  Bracken County  57 – Owensboro Catholic held a 50-38 lead in the fourth quarter and held on for the close victory.  5-11 Fr. Becca Greenwell led the victors with 34 points and 11 rebounds.  5-6 Sr. Kaley Robertson added 18 points and seven rebounds.  6-0 Sr. Hannah Haight led Bracken County with 20 points and six rebounds.  5-5 Sr. Katelyn Meyer and 5-7 Sr. Brittany Burden added 15 and 10 points respectively.

Newport Central Catholic  62  Caldwell  32 – Newport Central Catholic pulled away in the second half for the victiry.  Newport Central Catholic scored 30 points off 28 Caldwell County turnovers.  5-11 Sr. Mariah Tabor and 5-6 Jr. Kiley Bartels led the victors with 12 and 10 points respectively. 5-6 Sr. Courtney Sandfoss recorded six points, six assists, and seven steals.  6-1 Jr. Casey Stone led Caldwell County with 12 points.  5-11 Sr. Emily Meeks added nine points and eight rebounds.

Green County  59  Somerset  45  -  Green County trailed 24-22 at halftime but rallied to defeat Somerset.  Green County scored 25 points off 24 Somerset turnovers.  5-11 Sr. Kelsey Mitchell led Green County with 20 points, eight rebounds, and nine blocked shots.  5-8 So. Micah Jones added 11 points, five rebounds, six assists, and four steals.  5-8 Fr. Rachel Marr chipped in with 10 points.  5-6 Sr. Rolisa Jones led Somerset with 12 points and nine rebounds.  5-8 Sr. Samantha Dorsey added nine points on three three point baskets.

Murray 61  Glasgow  30 – Murray outscored Glasgow 37-13 in the second half.  5-9 So. Haley Armstrong led Murray with 15 points.  5-6 Fr. Janssen Starks added 11 points and eight assists.  6-2 Jr. Sian House chipped in with 11 points and five blocked shots.  5-7 So. Haley Perkins led Glasgow with 11 points and nine rebounds.

Walton-Verona 68  Owsley County 33 – Walton-Verona scored 30 points off 22 Owsley County turnovers in tonight’s victory.  5-5 So. Katie Slavey led Walton-Verona with 14 points and six rebounds.  5-11 Fr. Courtney Sandlin and 5-4 So. Jenalee Ginn added 12 and 10 points respectively.  5-6 Sr. Mika Turner led Owsley County with 15 points and eight rebounds.
