Sayre coach Ted Hall started the following lineup: 6-6 Fr. Ray Brewer, 6-0 So. Reid Freeman, 6-8 8th grader Dakari Johnson, 5-11 Jr. Griffin Miller, and 5-8 Fr. Mike Smith. Nicholas County coach Michael Cofer countered with 6-3 Sr. Zack Lemons, 6-3 Sr. Kyle Campbell, 6-7 Jr. Charles Washington, 5-9 Sr. Harry Fagan, and 5-10 Sr. Kalep Briely.
Sayre led 21-11 after the first quarter in a 77-65 victory over Nicholas County. Sayre shot 49.2% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line. The Spartans connected on 13 of 25 free throws, pulled down 50 rebounds, and scored 13 points off nine Nicholas County turnovers. Nicholas County shot 33.8% from the field including 10 of 37 from beyond the arc. The Blue Jackets connected on seven of 13 free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored nine points off 14 Sayre turnovers.
Mike Smith led Sayre with 28 points including three three point baskets. Smith was 11 of 16 from the field including three of four from the three point line and three of four from the free throw line. Dakari Johnson added 16 points, 18 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Reid Freeman also scored 16 points including three three point baskets.
Kyle Campbell led Nicholas County with 21 points including four three point baskets and pulled down six rebounds. 6-1 Sr. Dalton Hampton added 13 points including two three point baskets. Charles Washington chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds.
