Henry Clay coach Daniel Brown started the following lineup: 6-2 Sr. Trae Stewart, 6-0 Sr. Kendrick Prewitt, 6-6 Sr. Daniel Kiesling, 6-0 Sr. Brandon Nichols, and 5-9 Jr. Wes Kimball. Tates Creek coach Wayne Breeden countered with 6-4 Sr. Marcellus Barksdale, 6-0 Jr. Darius Gibson, 6-3 Sr. Todd Bradley, 5-11 Sr. Kendale Mack, and 6-2 Sr. Ryan Fucci.
Tates Creek defeated Henry Clay 50-49 in overtime. Ryan Fucci made one of two free throws late in the overtime period and blocked Wes Kimball’s attempted layup as time expired to preserve the victory. Tates Creek shot 34% from the field including zero for nine from the three point line. The Commodores connected on 18 of 25 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 18 Henry Clay turnovers. Henry Clay shot 35.8% from the field including five of 20 from beyond the arc. The Blue Devils connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 30 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 21 Tates Creek turnovers.
Ryan Fucci led Tates Creek with 25 points. Marcellus Barksdale added 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Brandon Nichols led Henry Clay with 15 points including four three point baskets. Daniel Kiesling added 12 points and nine rebounds. Coach Brown showed he was not afraid to throw two talented freshmen into the pressure cooker of city rivalries early in the season. 6-5 Fr. Trey Grundy logged 18:16 minutes and scored five points and pulled down three rebounds. 6-5 Fr. Jordan Green logged 26:14 minutes and scored two points and pulled down seven rebounds.
