Lexington Catholic coach Chelsea Chowning started the following lineup: 6-0 Jr. Alex Botkin, 5-10 Jr. Emily Johns, 6-0 Jr. Elizabeth Walton, 5-4 So. Sarah Cawood, and 5-8 So. Octavia Wilson. Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 5-7 Jr. Emily Justice, 5-7 Jr. Aleisha Stiltner, 6-1 Sr. Shomari Kendrick, 5-7 Sr. Mackenzie Graham, and 5-3 Sr. Jariana Gillespie.
Chelsea Chowning earned her first victory as head coach at Lexington Catholic with a hard fought 62-51 victory over Lafayette. Lexington Catholic raced out to a 24-10 first quarter lead and took a 37-24 lead at halftime. Lafayette cut the deficit to five;43-38 in the third quarter but Lexington Catholic rallied to lead 52-38 after three quarters. Lexington Catholic finished the third quarter on a high note as Octavia Wilson launched a three point bomb from well beyond mid court that found nothing but the bottom of net at the buzzer.
Lafayette rallied in the final period but could never get closer than eight points and Lexington Catholic held on for the win. Lafayette was hampered by foul woes tonight as Shomari Kendrick got two early fouls and only played 2:31 in the first half. Kendrick finally fouled out late in the game but was only able to log 13:58 minutes tonight. Poor shooting also plagued the Lady Generals as they made a valiant run but could never catch up tonight.
Lexington Catholic shot 42.6% from the field including four of 13 from the three point line. The Lady Knights connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 18 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 25.8% from the field including only one of 14 from beyond the arc. The Lady Generals connected on 14 of 16 free throws, pulled down 45 rebounds, and scored 24 points off 25 Lexington Catholic turnovers.
Alex Botkin led Lexington Catholic with 13 points and 17 rebounds. Octavia Wilson also scored 13 points. 5-7 Sr. Kendra Shaw chipped in with 12 points.
Emily Justice led Lafayette with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and five steals. Jariana Gillespie added 13 points, seven rebounds, and six steals. Shomari Kendrick recorded 11 points and nine rebounds.
