Lexington Catholic coach Chelsea Chowning started the following lineup: 6-0 Sr. Alex Botkin, 6-0 Sr. Emily Johns, 6-0 Sr. Elizabeth Walton, 5-8 Sr. Bonnie Rhule, and 5-9 Jr. Octavia Wilson. Clay County coach James Burchell countered with 5-11 So. Sara Robinson, 5-6 Sr. Natosha Gilbert, 5-11 Jr. Cheyenne Madden, 5-7 8th grader Talaura Mathis, and 5-6 Sr. Alisha Mitchell.
Clay County defeated Lexington Catholic 58-56 in a three overtime thriller today. Clay County led 32-27 after three quarters but Lexington Catholic rallied and Alex Botkin hit a layup in the closing seconds to tie the score at 47-47 and send the game to overtime. The score was 50-50 after the first overtime and Clay County’s Alisha Mitchell hit a three point basket in the closing seconds to tie the score at 56-56 and send the game to the third overtime. Alisha Mitchell hit two free throws with seconds remaining to give Clay County their victory margin.
Clay County shot 45% from the field including three of seven from the three point line. The Lady Tigers connected on 19 of 28 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored seven points off 10 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic shot 28.4% from the field including four of 20 from beyond the arc. The Lady Knights connected on 10 of 18 from the free throw line, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 26 Clay County turnovers. Lexington Catholic attempted 34 more shots (74-40) from the field than Clay County.
Cheyenne Madden led Clay county with 24 points and 14 rebounds. Alisha Mitchell added 19 points including 10 of 14 from the free throw line, six rebounds, and six assists.
Alex Botkin led Lexington Catholic with 23 points, 16 rebounds, and eight steals. Octavia Wilson added 10 points including two three point baskets and five assists. Elizabeth Walton chipped in with nine points and Bonnie Rhule pulled down eight rebounds. 5-9 Rachel Blake recorded five points, five rebounds, and four steals.
