Madison Central survived a serious challenge on Covington Catholic’s senior tonight to earn a come-from-behind 69-61 victory over the Colonels tonight. Madison Central raced out to a 19-8 lead in the first quarter but Covington Catholic fought back and actually took a 57-51 lead in the final quarter. Madison Central rallied to outscore Covington Catholic 18-4 the rest of the way to earn the victory. This game featured a tremendous battle between Madison Central’s 6-1 Jr. Dominique Hawkins (28 points) and Covington Catholic’s 5-10 So. Nick Ruthsatz (26 points).
Madison Central shot 39.6% from the field including five of 18 from the three point line. The Indians connected on 22 of 26 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Covington Catholic turnovers. Covington Catholic shot 33.8% from the field including five of 19 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 12 of 16 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 18 Madison Central turnovers. Covington Catholic held a 23-2 advantage in bench scoring.
Dominique Hawkins led Madison Central with 28 points including two three point baskets and seven rebounds. 6-1 Jr. Ken-Jah Bosley added 17 points including 11 of 12 free throws, and 12 rebounds. 6-6 Sr. Hunter Allen chipped in with nine points and eight rebounds. 6-5 Jr. Quan Taylor blocked five shots.
Nick Ruthsatz led Covington Catholic with 26 points including five three point baskets. 6-4 Jr. Zack Tobler added 19 points and 10 rebounds. 5-11 Sr. Clint Massie pulled down seven rebounds.
