Lexington Catholic coach Brandon Salsman started the following lineup: 6-9 Sr. Jack Whitman, 6-5 So. Tanner Johnson, 6-5 Sr. Tom Banahan, 5-11 Sr. Dillon Avare, and 6-2 So. Jarod Griffin. Woodford County coach Scott Hundley countered with 5-11 Jr. Chris Honabach, 6-5 Sr. Landen Young, 6-5 Sr. Chase Henderlight, 5-7 Sr. George Cole, and 5-11 Jr. Eli Boggess.
Eli Boggess connected on the first of two free throws with 2.8 seconds on the clock to give Woodford County a 69-68 victory over Lexington Catholic before a wildly enthusiastic home crowd. This was a hotly contested game with five lead change and eight ties. Lexington Catholic was cold from beyond the three point line (4 of 25) but Jack Whitman was a force in the paint tonight. It was a total team effort for Woodford County with solid contributions off the bench by Curtis Ham and Kyle Howell. Curtis Ham gave Woodford County a 68-66 lead late but received his fifth foul and went to the bench and Jack Whitman connected on two free throws to knot the score at 68-68 with 28.8 seconds left on the clock. Woodford County worked the clock and Eli Boggess was fouled setting the stage for his late heroics.
Woodford County shot 46% from the field including six of 15 from the three point line. The Yellow Jackets connected on 17 of 24 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 14 Lexington Catholic turnovers. Lexington Catholic shot 39.3% from the field including four of 25 from beyond the arc. The Knights connected on 16 of 23 free throws, pulled down 36 rebounds, and scored 15 points off 17 Woodford County turnovers.
Eli Boggess led Woodford County with 17 points. Landen Young added 16 points and 10 rebounds. Chris Honabach chipped in with 15 points including three three point baskets and pulled down five rebounds. 6-3 Sr. Curtis Ham recorded 10 points, seven rebounds, and four steals. 5-10 Sr. Kyle Howell added nine points.
Jack Whitman led Lexington Catholic with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Whitman was eight of 11 from the field including zero of one from beyond the arc and nine of 14 from the free throw line. Tanner Johnson added 17 points including three three point baskets. 6-3 So. Reese Ryan added nine points and five rebounds and 5-10 So. Michael Talbott chipped in with six points.
