St. Mary’s Ryken coach Kris Sandberg started the following lineup: 5-11 Sr. Brittani Burgess, 5-9 Fr. Deja Ford, 6-3 Sr. Cydney Smith, 5-8 So. Briana Hardee, and 5-8 Sr. Marissa Somerville. Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 5-7 Sr. Kristin Matula, 5-6 Jr. Raven Merriweather, 5-9 Jr. Dai Jia Ruffin, 5-3 So. Ashley Johnson, and 5-3 So. Gretchen Samsel.
Sacred Heart pulled away in the second half to defeat St. Mary’s Ryken by a score of 57-43. Sacred Heart shot 37.7% from the field including four of 12 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on seven of 15 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored nine points off 18 St.Mary’s Ryken turnovers. St. Mary’s Ryken shot 33.9% from the field including zero of three from beyond the arc. The Knights connected on five of 13 free throws, pulled down 38 rebounds, and scored nine points off 15 Sacred Heart turnovers.
Dai Jia Ruffin led Sacred Heart with 22 points and 15 rebounds. Raven Merriweather added 11 points, 12 rebounds, and four assists.
Briana Hardee led St. Mary’s Ryken with 15 points. Marissa Somerville added 12 points. Cydney Smith pulled down eight rebounds and blocked four shots and Brittani Burgess pulled down seven rebounds.
