Ashland Blazer coach Bill Bradley started the following lineup: 5-10 So. Alexis Robinson, 5-8 Sr. Allie Slone, 5-11 So. Haley Sue Foutch, 5-7 Sr. Sydney Cullop, and 5-6 Sr. Kaylyn Gambill. Lafayette coach Allison Denton countered with 6-0 Jr. Sarah Cooley, 5-10 So. Dee Givens, 6-4 So. Ashanti Thomas, 5-6 Jr. Megumi Nagahiro, and 5-6 Jr. Ken’yale Demus.
Ashland Blazer overcame a commanding 25-2 deficit in second effort points to defeat Lafayette by a score of 59-56. There were five lead changes and four ties in the game. Ashland Blazer shot 36.8% from the field including seven of 21 from beyond the arc. The Kittens connected on 10 of 16 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Lafayette turnovers.
Lafayette shot 38.6% from the field including two of 13 from the three point line. The Lady Generals connected on 10 of 12 free throws, pulled down 47 rebounds, and scored nine points off eight Ashland Blazer turnovers.
Alexis Robinson led Ashland Blazer with 16 points including three three point baskets and seven rebounds. Kaylyn Gambill added 15 points including four three point baskets. Sydney Cullop chipped in with 12 points.
Sarah Cooley led Lafayette with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Ashanti Thomas added 15 points, 15 rebounds, and four blocked shots. 5-9 8th grade Kiara Pankins chipped in with 10 points and five rebounds. Pankins was three of four from the field and four of four from the free throw line. Ken’yale Demus also recorded 10 points. Dee Givens pulled down eight rebounds and dished out six assists.
