Sayre coach Ted Hall started the following lineup: 6-1 Jr. Martin Durmov, 5-11 Sr. Duncan Courtney, 6-3 So. Quinn Pergande, 5-9 Jr. Ben Davis, and 6-0 Jr. Justin Sanders. St. Patrick’s coach Andrew Arn countered with 6-2 Sr. Derrick McCall, 6-2 Jr. Andrew Brant, 6-4 So. Andrew Sticklen, 5-2 Fr. Brennan Bauer, and 6-0 Jr. William McKay.
Justin Sanders scored a layup on an excellent assist from Quinn Pergande with 30 seconds left in the game to give Sayre a 38-36 victory over St. Patrick’s in a hard fought game. Sayre led 31-21 in the third quarter but St. Patrick’s rallied to tie the game on a three point shot by William McKay with 55 seconds left in the game. The score was tied three times and there were seven lead changes in the game.
Sayre shot 26.9% from the field including five of 17 from the three point line. The Spartans connected on five of 10 free throws, pulled down 42 rebounds, and scored 13 points off 21 St. Patrick’s turnovers. St. Patrick’s shot 32.6% from the field including five of 13 from beyond the arc. The Saints connected on three of 10 free throws, pulled down 32 rebounds, and scored 12 points off 19 Sayre turnovers.
Justin Sanders led Sayre with 16 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Ben Davis added nine points on three three point baskets. Quinn Pergande recorded seven points, 10 rebounds, and two blocked shots.
William McKay led St. Patrick’s with 14 points including four three point baskets and six rebounds. Andrew Sticklen added nine points, nine rebounds, and two blocked shots. Andrew Brant chipped in with eight points and six rebounds.
