Sayre coach Scotty Sutton started the following lineup: 5-6 8th grade Sydney Strup, 5-7 Sr. Cammie Croney-Clark, 6-3 So. Gabby Bowie, 5-7 Jr. Hadyn White, and 5-8 Jr. Holly Manella. Berea coach Jerry Bingham countered with 5-9 8th grade Alexandria Horn, 5-6 Jr. Chase Fain, 5-11 So. Victoria Sexton, 5-1 8th grade Jordan Sandefur, and 5-6 Sr. Ashley Sizemore.
Sayre defeated Berea by a score of 42-39 tonight. Sayre led 37-24 in the final quarter but had to survive a Berea rally for the victory. It was two different styles on offense tonight as Berea held a 21-0 advantage on three point points but Sayre held a 32-6 advantage in points in the paint. Sayre held a 17-6 advantage in second effort points. Sayre shot 36.7% from the field including zero of one from the three point line. The Lady Spartans connected on six of 13 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 10 Berea turnovers. Berea shot 23.2% from the field including seven of 19 from beyond the arc. The Lady Pirates connected on six of nine free throws, pulled down 31 rebounds, and scored six points off 15 Sayre turnovers.
Gabby Bowie recorded a triple-double tonight with 13 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 blocked shots. Holly Manella added 12 points and 10 rebounds. Sydney Strup chipped in with eight points and five rebounds.
Jordan Sandefur led Berea with 22 points including five three point baskets. Victoria Sexton added nine points and six rebounds. Alexandria Horn pulled down eight rebounds.
