Lafayette coach Mike Mendenhall III started the following lineup: 6-8 Sr. Nick Trisko, 6-4 Sr. Aaron Evans, 6-9 Jr. Jackson Davis, 6-2 Jr. Lance Blakely, and 6-3 Sr. Tranard Chester. Paul Laurence Dunbar coach Scott Chalk countered with 6-5 Sr. E.J. Floreal, 6-2 Sr. William Gary, 6-7 Sr. Taylor King, 5-10 Sr. Mike Smith, and 6-0 Jr. Donnie Lewis.
Mike Smith came out on fire in the first half scoring 20 points including four three point baskets to lead Dunbar to a 42-31 halftime lead on their way to an 83-66 victory over Lafayette. Dunbar shot 50.9% from the field including four of nine from the three point line. The Bulldogs connected on 21 of 34 free throws, pulled down 39 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 19 Lafayette turnovers. Lafayette shot 38.8% from the field including two of nine from beyond the arc. The Generals connected on 26 of 40 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 11 points off 14 Dunbar turnovers.
Mike Smith led Dunbar with 29 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and three steals. William Gary added 13 points and six rebounds. E.J. Floreal chipped in with 12 points and five rebounds. 6-5 Sr. Eric Trigg recorded eight points and 10 rebounds.
Jackson Davis led Lafayette with 29 points, 16 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Tranard Chester added 12 points.
