Scott County coach Billy Hicks started the following lineup: 6-3 Sr. Tony Martini, 6-1 Sr. Matt Murray, 7-1 So. Raekwon Long, 6-1 Sr. Teddy Ware, and 6-2 Sr. Trent Gilbert. Ballard coach Chris Renner countered with 6-6 Sr. Kelan Martin, 6-3 So. Malik Dow, 6-5 Jr. Corey Douglas, 6-1 Jr. Jalen Perry, and 6-1 Sr. Quentin Snider.
No. 1 Ballard defeated No. 3 ranked Scott County by a score of 96-85 tonight in an early season battle between traditional basketball powers. Ballard actually led 59-38 in the third quarter but Scott County outscored the Bruins 47-37 the rest of the game to make the margin closer. Scott County actually cut the deficit to 85-81 before Ballard made their final run. Ballard shot 54.4% from the field including seven of 18 from the three point line. The Bruins connected on 27 of 39 free throws, pulled down 37 rebounds, and scored 25 points off 20 Scott County turnovers. Scott County shot 46.8% from the field including 10 of 31 from beyond the arc. The Cardinals connected on 17 of 22 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 19 Ballard turnovers.
Quentin Snider led Ballard tonight with 32 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and six steals. Kelan Martin added 29 points and seven rebounds. Malik Dow chipped in with 11 points and five rebounds.
Trent Gilbert had a sensational night for Scott County with 40 points including six three point baskets and six rebounds. Teddy Ware added 20 points including four three point baskets. 6-0 Sr. Austin Kindred recorded 12 points. Tony Martini chipped in with eight points and 13 rebounds. Raekwon Long was limited in minutes due to foul woes and only played 10 minutes with four points and four rebounds.
