Assumption coach Steve Small started the following lineup: 5-8 Sr. Molly Steinmetz, 5-8 Jr. Leah Mattingly, 6-5 Jr. Nora Kiesler, 5-4 Jr. Cassidy Janes, and 5-7 Sr. Fran Deeley. Sacred Heart Academy coach Donna Moir countered with 5-9 Sr. DaiJia Ruffin, 5-6 Sr. Raven Merriweather, 5-11 So. Maggie Colley, 5-4 Jr. Ashley Johnson, and 5-4 Jr. Gretchen Samsel.
Raven Merriweather hit two free throws in the closing seconds to give Sacred Heart a 39-37 victory over Assumption. There were seven lead changes and two ties in this game and Assumption held a 24-13 lead in the third quarter but Sacred Heart outscored the Rockets 26-13 the rest of the game. Sacred Heart shot 25% from the field including five of 27 from the three point line. The Valkyries connected on six of 11 free throws, pulled down 29 rebounds, and scored 17 points off 21 Assumption turnovers. Sacred Heart attempted 21 more shots (56-35) from the field than Assumption. Assumption shot 40% from the field including one of four from beyond the arc. The Rockets connected on eight of 14 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored two points off nine Sacred Heart turnovers.
Ashley Johnson led Sacred Heart with 12 points including three three point baskets. DaiJia Ruffin added 11 points, five rebounds, four blocked shots, and five steals. Raven Merriweather recorded eight points, 10 rebounds, and four steals.
Nora Kiesler led Assumption with 18 points and 16 rebounds. Cassidy Janes added five points. Leah Mattingly chipped in with four points and six rebounds.
