Eastern Kentucky University coach Jeff Neubauer started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Timmy Knipp, 6-7 Jr. Ja’Mill Powell, 6-8 Sr. Eric Stutz, 6-2 Sr. Corey Walden, and 6-4 So. Jaylen Babb-Harrison. IUPUI coach Jason Gardner countered with 6-6 Fr. Aaron Brennan, 6-5 Jr. Mason Archie, 6-7 Sr. DavRon Williams, 5-9 Jr. PJ Boutte, and 6-5 Jr. Marcellus Barksdale.
Eastern led 34-32 at halftime and pulled away in the second half to earn a 73-64 victory over IUPUI. Eastern Kentucky went on a 27-7 run to open the second half to take a 61-39 but IUPUI battled back fueled by a 17-3 run to narrow the margin to single digits. Eastern Kentucky shot 55.3% from the field including 10 of 24 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 26 points off 19 IUPUI turnovers. IUPUI shot 49% from the field including six of 19 from beyond the arc. They connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 23 rebounds, and scored 16 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
Corey Walden led Eastern Kentucky with 20 points including four three point baskets, seven rebounds, six assists, and four steals. Eric Stutz added 17 points and five rebounds. Ja’Mill Powell chipped in with 14 points including two three point baskets. 6-4 Jr. Jonathan Hood recorded eight points including two three point baskets.
Mason Archie led IUPUI with 12 points and seven assists. Aaron Brennan added 11 points. 6-5 Fr. Leo Svete chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets. Marcellus Barksdale recorded eight points, five rebounds, and three steals. DavRon Williams also scored eight points.
