Eastern Kentucky University coach Jeff Neubauer started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Timmy Knipp, 6-5 Jr. Denzel Richardson, 6-8 Sr. Eric Stutz, 6-2 Sr. Corey Walden, and 6-4 So. Jaylen Babb-Harrison. Florida Atlantic University coach Michael Curry countered with 6-6 Sr. Kelvin Penn, 6-4 Jr. Jackson Trapp, 6-9 Fr. CJ Turman, 5-10 So. Marquan Botley, and 6-0 Jr. Soloman Poole.
Javier Lacunza nailed a three point basket to give FAU a 63-60 lead for good in a 69-66 victory over Eastern Kentucky. There were 12 ties and 13 lead changes in this game. FAU shot 54.5% from the field including 11 of 21 from the three point line. The Owls connected on 10 of 14 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored six points off seven EKU turnovers. EKU shot 48.3% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on seven of 12 free throws, pulled down 19 rebounds, and scored 27 points off 21 FAU turnovers.
Jackson Trapp led FAU with 19 points including six three point baskets. Marquan Botley added 15 points and five assists. CJ Turman chipped in with 12 points. Kelvin Penn recorded eight points, 14 rebounds, and two blocked shots.
Corey Walden led EKU with 15 points and four steals. Eric Stutz added 13 points, five rebounds, and six assists. Denzel Richardson also scored 13 points. 6-7 Jr. Ja’Mill Powell also reached double figures with 10 points.
