Eastern Kentucky University coach Dan McHale started the following lineup: 6-7 Sr. Jarelle Reischel, 6-5 Jr. Javontae Hawkins, 6-9 Fr. Nick Mayo, 6-1 So. Paul Jackson, and 6-2 Jr. Isaac McGlone. Savannah State coach Horace Broadnax countered with 6-6 Jr. Javaris Jenkins, 6-4 Jr. Troyce Manassa, 6-8 Gr. Lenjo Kilo, 6-0 Gr. Christopher Martin, and 6-4 Jr. Casey Wells.
Eastern Kentucky University, fueled by some clutch free throw shooting (17-18) by Jarelle Reischel rallied to defeat Savannah State by a score of 74-71. The score was tied six times and there were eight lead changes in the game. Eastern Kentucky shot 37.5% from the field including eight of 30 from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 24 of 27 free throws, pulled down 34 rebounds, and scored 28 points off 25 Savannah State turnovers. Savannah State shot 52.4% from the field including one of 13 from beyond the arc. They connected on 26 of 39 free throws, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 23 points off 19 Eastern Kentucky turnovers.
Jarelle Reischel led Eastern Kentucky with 24 points, 12 rebounds, and eight assists. Javontae Hawkins added 16 points. Nick Mayo recorded 10 points. Isaac McGlone chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets and three steals. 6-1 Sr. KC Bluford also scored nine points on three three point baskets.
Troyce Manassa led Savannah State with 18 points, seven rebounds, and four assists. Lenjo Kilo, Javaris Jenkins, and 6-7 Sr. Brian Pearson each recorded nine points.
