Wright State coach Mike Bradbury started the following lineup: 6-1 Fr. Antania Hayes, 5-9 Sr. Symone Denham, 6-5 Jr. Richelle Van Der Keijl, 5-8 Fr. Emily Vogelpohl, and 5-8 Sr. Kim Demmings. Eastern Kentucky coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 6-1 Sr. Miranda Maples, 5-10 Shameekia Murray, 6-1 Jr. Jalen O’Bannon, 5-8 Jr. Alexus Cooper, and 5-10 Jr. Michaela Hunter.
5-10 Fr. Symone Simmons hit a three point basket with eight seconds on the clock to give Wright State a 71-69 victory over Eastern Kentucky University. The Colonels had one last possession but could not score. The score was tied 12 times and there were 14 lead changes in the game. Wright State was seven of 11 from behind the arc in the second half, out rebounded the Colonels 46-35, and held a 27-7 advantage in bench scoring.
Wright State shot 39.1% from the field including eight of 21 from the three point line. They connected on nine of 15 free throws, pulled down 46 rebounds, and scored 19 points off 21 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 40.7% from the field including three of 14 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on 18 of 24 free throws, pulled down 35 rebounds, and scored 20 points off 26 Wright State turnovers.
Emily Vogelpohl led Wright State with 20 points including four three point baskets, five rebounds, and three steals. Symone Simmons added 12 points including two three point baskets. Symone Denham chipped in with nine points including two three point baskets, three rebounds, and four assists. 5-11 So. Lexi Smith also scored nine points. Richelle Van Der Keijl recorded seven points and nine rebounds. Antania Hayes added four points, eight rebounds, and five assists.
Michaela Hunter led Eastern Kentucky with 25 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and four steals. Jalen O’Bannon also scored 25 points, pulled down eight rebounds, and two blocked shots. Alexus Cooper chipped in with eight points including two three point baskets.
