Jacksonville State coach Rick Pietri started the following lineup: 6-1 Fr. Chloe Long, 5-8 So. Gretchen Morrison, 6-1 So. Tyler Phelion, 5-7 Sr. Destiny James, and 5-8 Sr. Courtney Strain. Eastern Kentucky University coach Chrissy Roberts countered with 5-10 Jr. Zee Willix, 5-10 Sr. Shameekia Murray, 6-1 Jr. Jalen O’Bannon, 5-8 Jr. Alexus Cooper, and 5-10 Jr. Michaela Hunter.
Eastern Kentucky University led 53-49 with less than a minute remaining in the game but Jacksonville State rallied for a 56-54 victory. Briana Benson hit two free throws with six seconds remaining on the clock for the victory. The score was tied seven times and there were 11 lead changes in the game. Jacksonville State shot 34% from the field including nine of 24 from the three point line. They connected on 11 of 14 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored 18 points off 17 Eastern Kentucky turnovers. Eastern Kentucky shot 38.9% from the field including four of 10 from beyond the arc. The Colonels connected on eight of 12 free throws, pulled down 40 rebounds, and scored six points off 13 Jacksonville State turnovers.
5-9 Jr. Briana Benson led Jacksonville State with 17 points including four three point baskets, four rebounds, and three steals. Tyler Phelion added 14 points and two blocked shots. Courtney Strain recorded nine points and five assists. Gretchen Morrison chipped in with nine points on three three point baskets.
Jalen O’Bannon led Eastern Kentucky with 18 points, nine rebounds, and six assists. Michaela Hunter added 14 points including two three point baskets, five rebounds, and four assists. Shameekia Murray recorded 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists.
