Covington Catholic coach Scott Ruthsatz started the following lineup: 6-2 So. CJ Fredrick, 6-3 So. AJ Mayer, 6-4 Sr. Andy Flood, 5-9 So. Aiden Ruthsatz, and 6-2 Jr. Cole Von Handorf. Madison Central coach Allen Feldhaus Jr. countered with 6-1 Sr. Grant Brockman, 6-1 Sr. Dakota Begley, 6-2 Sr. John Williams, 5-10 Sr. Seth Richardson, and 5-10 Sr. Terique Miller.
Covington Catholic led 40-31 early in the third quarter and held on down the stretch to defeat Madison Central by a score of 65-63. There were two lead changes and three ties in this game. Covington Catholic shot 48% from the field including five of eight from the three point line. The Colonels connected on 12 of 18 from the free throw line, pulled down 33 rebounds, and scored 14 points off 10 Madison central turnovers. Covington Catholic held a 17-5 advantage in second effort points. Madison Central shot 47.8% from the field including eight of 18 from beyond the arc. The Indians connected on 11 of 18 free throws, pulled down 28 rebounds, and scored seven points off five Covington Catholic turnovers.
AJ Mayer led a balanced Covington Catholic scoring attack with 16 points including eight of 11 free throws and nine rebounds. Cole VonHandorf added 14 points, five rebounds, and two steals. CJ Fredrick chipped in with 13 points including three three point baskets. Andy Flood recorded 12 points and six rebounds. Aiden Ruthsatz added eight points, four rebounds, and three steals.
Terique Miller led Madison Central with 20 points including five three point baskets, seven rebounds, and three steals. John Williams added 19 points, 11 rebounds, and five assists. Grant Brockman chipped in with 14 points including two three point baskets.
